When do you start gigging?

Hey all,

So redfish and trout are allowed to be gigged March 1. I don’t really care to target them, though. During which months/water temp should I expect to start seeing flounder come back inshore in numbers that make a gigging trip worthwhile? Hoping to sneak out before I hit the school grind hard this summer! Thanks!

I usually wait until the giggin guide gets busted at the ramp with undersized fish. Then I know it’s time to go

(**()it, I told you to quit telling all my secrets!!!

23, can I book a guided gigging trip with you:question: I’ll take my chances DNR, isn’t at the ramp, to meet us:imp::smiley:

PS: We can use POD, as a lookout:wink:

No, I quit gigging. There are too many cowboys out there killing small fish. The resource can’t sustain it. I’m the last one for more regulations, but DNR should step in and not allow gigging charters…just my opinion.

The fish are always larger than they look. Take your time and measure them using your tines as a guide. I’ve heard that you can also judge the size by how far apart the eyes are spaced. Based on the number of baby flounder I pulled in with my cast net while shrimping Bulls Bay, there is a healthy population.

I went with my buddy last year I never saw a flounder he saw 4 but kept saying they were small. I saw one of the ones he saw and said shoot it, its a keeper he said its the smallest one I’ve seen. It was 17. We grew up in the 90s and his neighbor used to gig. He thought 20inches were small smh.

The peepod speaks only in truth; if you know anything, know that.
