Got introduced to Planer Boards last winter and spring and really liked their capabilities. Then put them up as the water started warming up and went to downrods. So when is a good time to start using them again? With water conditions and oxygen the way it is now, along with the sighted fish reports recently posted, is it a viable attempt to use them now, or am I just be over anxious?
Trying to gear Patti up for the MSC Ladies tournament Saturday.
We’ll really most people even use them in early morning hours in the summer but generally mid to late October till late spring early summer but all threw winter
VERY soon. I had them on the boat this past sunday, but was able to find enough fish to justify not using them. If I was fishing yhis weekend they would def be on the boat. If u start marking alot of fish at 20’and less but cant get them to chew I would slap on boards. Drop 20-40’ of line back and add 1/4-1/2oz of lead and start pulling.
I don’t dust off planers for LM until after turnover. Usually, I do ok with downrods and heavy metal until then. Planers can be effective in a variety of situations, but I don’t go through the trouble of using them until prime time.
