Where are all the yak fishermen on this board?

I know there must be more people fishing from yaks than are posting on this board. How about sharing some stories, rigging tips, etc. I’ll try and get the ball rolling.

Rigging Tip: I read on a Texas kayak fishing board about people using old ski poles to anchor in shallow water. They just jam the pole through a scupper hole. I didn’t have a ski pole, but in the wind on Saturday I used an old golf club shaft with the grip still attached. I filled the end of the shaft with epoxy to make it solid. Worked like a charm.

I was thinking of starting to fish my kayak some,One great method I used to use in a johnboat was;I used to troll down the bank, with troll motor in one hand and use a Fiberglass cane pole(12’,not too heavy)with 12 foot of line on it.You can cast 24’ft with that rig.I would put a grub on it and let it bounce down the ledges. You can really get to the depth the fish are at ,this way. Also you can "cast"and hit a hundered more spots without all that reeling in…seems like this would be great for a kayak…It is interesting, how many 10 pounders you can catch right next to the boat ,without spooking them…Better bring a net to get them in the boat. Also it pays to buy a strong cane pole…

Hey Renix,

I’d like to take you up on your offer to try your Drifter. I’ll call you tomorrow and try to set up a time and place to meet you. I really appreciate your offer!

Thanks,

I just found this board and fish from a sit-in kayak in fresh water only so far. So far(2 years) I’ve only fished small rivers and larger creeks in North Georgia. I usually just use the boat for transportation and get out and wade. Mine holds a small ice chest, a tackle box and 2 rods. I found a great anchor that I use, it’s a clamp from a jumper cable that I attach to anything that’s near including my belt when I’m wading. Rod holders and such are hard to put on a sit-in because you have to turn it upside down to transport it in the rain.
