Where are the big stripers on Lake Murray?

Lately I only seem to be catching the small ones!

they are between the river and the dam in 5 to 200 feet of water.

seriously i dont know where they are but i seriously doubt anybody on here will tell you. i have had limited luck on the water as of late but i quit even posting reports because nobody else does. this forum lights up during the winter with everybody talking about fishing, but when the summer comes, nobody will tell anybody where they are catching fish. this whole practice of “secret” fishing spots that nobody will mention really sucks. and i am not just talking about striper fishing, its all kinds of fishing. i dont want to take part in it, but i feel almost forced to.

Hey, I post reports telling when and where. I just haven’t been able to go as often as I used to due to other demands on my time. And the last time I went, almost all were shorts. The next time I go, I will be fishing deep water trolling u-rigs from downriggers. One set at 40 feet and one set at 50 feet to start, unless I find fish or schools of bait at some other depth. I will probably start at Bomb Island and work toward the dam. This is the typical summer time pattern for me. If I can find suspended schools of bait, I can usually find fish.

LOL I’ll get hate mail for this but who cares…Chris you know me and you know I’ll give up some info if I can…heck I just want to see guys having a chance to enjoy what I love. So I’m heading out tomorrow and for what its worth I’ll be fishing the river between Bomb and the Towers. I’ll be putting bait down 40-80 foot, and of course I’ll have a freeline out. Most of my bigger fish lately have come off freelines out by the towers…I kid you not. However I admit these fish have been a bit funny this year and you might hit the shallows and get them too…lol just don’t look for me to be there  Anyhow guys have fun and if you don’t catch any so what you can still kick back with a few Mountain Dews and enjoy the day. I had four in the boat 23-27 inchs between 6-7am…nothing before or after…oh by the way did any of you 50 boats at the mouth of Yahtt limit? I was off the water by 10am. This is one spot I’m not giving up although I did see one other boat trying it but I never saw a rod go down for them. God Bless,

you know that you were the last person on this forum that comment was dirrected at. i know that you view the whole fishing community as a family and you would bend over backwards to help out a fellow fisherman. i just get sick sometimes of people not telling anybody where they catch fish.
chris

lol and you know I agree 100%. Thats aight you and I’ll just have to keep everyone up to date. Word has it most limited near Yahtt this morning, but lol good luck trying to get there in the morning…

I don’t know about the stripers,but I did find a hybrid… http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v30/sidkid/fish-web-2.jpg and a cathttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v30/sidkid/catfish-web.jpg
Good luck ,but I would look for some tree tops in at least 50 feet of water
Fish came from hartwell !!

uscfan, it is the same up here on Hartwell. I go to the local striper board and it is near impossible to get some help. There are a few of us that post our reports everytime out and try and help some folks.

I do not understand why more people are not like this.

That is one of the things that keeps my coming to this board. I get down to our house on IOP 4-5 times a year and if I need some inshore help I just ask and get plenty of answers which I really appreciate.

I would give a little help on Murray but I only fished there one time. It was about this time last year and we fished at night at the towers.

Seems like we ended up about 22 fish, only kept 2

I am not much of a night fisherman but I do try it a couple of times each year, in fact I am headed out this thursday pm for a trip

tprice,
Next time you go to IP and need to hook up let me know. My brother in law lives there (@ Brick something subdivision) and fishes a lot. The guy he shares the house with is also an inshore guide (mostly in the Bulls BAy area). With a little luck I will get down and fish with them this summer. But they should be able to help. I can’t stand this closed mouth secret hand shake BS. I don’t think I am going to depleat the fishery any time in this life time!

AMEN to that Cris … It really sucks … I personally have no
problem sharing info with anyone … If they show up in the spot I
called, will give them a toast, handshake and a good luck smile …

mgammon, I agree with you 100%.

It is not much better up here, we have a few striper clubs and when they have a TX they all act like they do this for a living. Poor dumb Basta*** spend more to get there than they can win.

If I catch fish and anyone wants to know I will tell them how, when, where and on what and wish them luck and all I ask for is a report to see if I was correct and I also appreciate the same.
