noticed the other weekend that there is no longer a no wake zone around the Folly River Bridge/boat ramp…there is also not a no wake zone at the Sol Legare boat ramp (don’t put in much here so not sure if there ever was one)…lots of people slowing down anyway, but why in the world would there NOT be no wake zones around boat ramps? and while we are at it why on Earth would you put a floating dock like that at Sol Legare, with the pilings OUTSIDE of the floater itself? no protection from the exposed aluminum makes it very difficult to tie up there without having to have someone hold the boat or causing damage to your hull, or both…
There have never been No Wake zones at the ramps I frequent in SC either. Bolen Hall, Cheechessie, Alljoy, none have signs. It’s always puzzled me, and I always slow down for them anyway. Every ramp I know of in GA has No Wake signs.
Don’t think you really need a ‘no wake zone’ at Sol Legare. The landing is directly on the Stono and it’s pretty wide, so there’s lots of room for boat traffic. I’m sure that if you’re traveling near the landing you’d slow down but passing the landing way out in the middle of the Stono there’s not a need to slow down. The wake would dissipate by the time it reached the landing.

I see people all the time not slowing down (or not slowing down enough) at Wappoo and there is a no wake zone there…that day at Sol Legare there was a good bit of boat traffic in the middle of the river, but wake was still an issue at the ramp…as mentioned, hopefully somebody doesn’t have to get hurt badly before this changes…I haven’t been to Remley’s in a while, do they have the walls back up out there?
Something needs to be done at Remley’s too. Since that breakwater was removed a few years back, it sucks if a big boat is going by. If there’s a tug, most people don’t know what to do or how to act at the ramp. I’ve seen people fall out of boats on two occasions right there due to wake…
For Folly, the no wake bouys were installed for bridge construction (same in Folly Creek) and removed when construction ended. I’m nearly positive there were none prior to the start of the bridge construction. Heading up the river no wake should start at Folly Creek and continue to other side of bridge. Between the moored boats, kayakers, paddleboards, and boat traffic it’s too congested in there in the summer. A lot of people do slow down through there but not enough when it’s that crowded. Also surprised there’s not a zone by Sunset Marina. Probably wasn’t an issue when the channel was on other side of river but surprised they didn’t make it no wake when the channel moved to along the marina.
Sol legare needs a sign
“No idiot or inconsiderate zone” more than “no wake”
The two contiguous ramps, limited parking, single side short dock is a horrible setup.
On a Sunday am bike ride a couple weeks back, saw some construction barges in the water by the ramp. Fingers crossed it was funded for improvements.
Have seen some decent sheeps pulled off that dock however.
