I hear a few reports here and there on the Spanish but nothing like it should be. It’s usually red hot by fathers day.
Anybody have any info to share?

I saw birds at the far end of the south jetty the other day. I assume spanish were under 'em.

Was watching something work bait balls up and down the beach at Pawleys last week. On 2 occasions I saw what I assume was a spanish sky out of the water pretty good. I borrowed a paddle board and threw a spoon through one of the schools several times (not one that I saw the spanish jump from), but only came up with a couple foul hooked menhaden and a shark.

Found some SM a few weeks ago off the N jetty. We tried everything: throwing spoons to them, trolling on top, trolling with a 3 oz trolling weight, 0 and 00 clark spoons, only got 1.
Don’t know what we were doing wrong but must’ve been something because the fish weren’t interested in our offerings.

Caught quite a few this past weekend on folly. Largest was north of 5lbs with average being 1-2 range
I caught one yesterday on a 00 Clark spoon with pink foil tape on it. They don’t seem like they’re out in the harbor thick yet.

My suggestion, if you’re seeing fish and they won’t bite, try trolling faster. They like a very fast moving bait. Sort of like wahoo. When casting to them, reel as fast as you can.

I don’t beleve you can reel to fast for them.
Me either, Sometimes not even fast enough, move those spoons fast.

I bought the Clark Spoon bird rig at Wal-Mart.
Never used birds for SM but thought it would be worth a try.
With the weather as hot as it is, might do better with a #1 Planner and 20’ of leader.
Anybody used the bird before?

Tons of Spanish off the outer end of the south jetty last Sunday but they looked pretty small.
Olde Man Charters
They are on the nearshore reefs. Haven’t seen any off the beach yet but there is plenty of bait around so I am sure they are nearby.
They have been around the beach but not in good numbers or consistent. No idea why not either
