We are not having any luck finding Jelly Balls near Edisto – We are seeing Spadefish but can’t get them to strike…
Peeled raw shrimp works. Bury your hook in it. Usually you will find jelly balls at slack tide near tide lines, but you never can find them when you need them. When you don’t they are everywhere
saw none the other day in the ocean.
I was writing this same time as Opti. tiny bits of shrimp on a #2 j hook, just enough to hide the hook. 20lb fluoro and free line it ahead of the school so it’s in the zone when they drift back around
doesn’t hurt to chum it like that too
tiny squid strips sometimes also work
they eat little stuff off sargassum so i always wondered if a micro approach using live grass shrimp (or the super small creek shrimp around now) would work too
see VD’s edisto post for an alternative solution
A few days ago we were out and saw some - but they wouldn’t bite - some rude guy pulled up near us and had a couple of jelly balls - they caught several - I want jelly balls
I have frozen some in the past. It worked.
So much easier than freezing them in the future
Good luck on your quest Rob
