Just moved here 9 months ago. I put in some hours, but rare success. I am on foot. I enjoy wade fishing with lures, but would rather not swim to a spot. Anyone know of a place I can walk around and fish? I have worked Cherry creek(Rockville), the stono bridge on Main, the rocks at the end of Fort Johnson, etc. Either too much pluff to walk or I am simply ignorant of places for foot travel. I am no pier fisherman myself. I like to get down on their level.
I use jerk baits, jigs, cork, mullet, or MM. My freezer longs for red bass. I would love a place close to my house on Johns to hit often. But, I will drive to a hot spot. Any advice you give would be welcome. I have waited 9 months to ask. Thank you guys.
You may want to try Church Creek under the bridge on Maybank Highway just after you cross over Main Road. I’ve never fished there myself, but I know several people who have caught both trout and redfish there. Good luck, and hope this helps.

Black Bart, I appreciate that. I will go check that out. Nice touch with the Map.
Sorry not quite as computer savvy as Bart but you may try Folly Road on James Island. As you head to Folly Beach pretty good flats on the right-hand side just past Sol Legare road. I have seen folks wade essentially from the painted boat right on down to the dirt road that heads to Bowens Island. Side of Bowens Island Road is also wade-able. Other side of the Folly Road looks pretty good as well. Mud is fairly firm this would be an ideal spot to hit on some of the upcoming big September tides. Reds will be cruising the grass feeding on fiddlers. Scout the area at low tide to determine where the firm mud is as well as to locate the good populations of fiddlers. Go back and fish last hour of incoming first hour of outgoing. Stalk the fish very carefully keeping your eyes peeled for tails or any other movements cast head of the schools with a slow retrieval. Weedless spoons or soft plastics including scented jerk baits and peeler crabs rigged weedless work great.
There goes that walk to flat…

PM’s are fine. I appreciate what I have gotten already. Thank you fellas.
Hey Black Bart. I appreciate that. My wife just had her first fried flounder fillets. My wife came with me and just started casting her freshwater beetle spin. She caught 2 flounder and a rat red in 10 casts. I got this one and we went home.
Contender, I appreciate the tip. I will be studying for the next flood tide. It will be my first.

I’m more impressed with the beetle spin catches. that’s awesome.

I agree. She was using an 1/8 oz Orange Johnson BS. She had 3 fish on while I was still tying on a DOA. After many casts, I tied on the only other BS I had. A big 1/2oz. Took off the grub and used a Elec Chick grub. This flounder 18" hit on the 1st cast. Steady retrieve too. You got me. It was an accidental find. We are thankful for the tips.

1/4 Bs the white with the red dot is great for trout.

Thank you Stonoman. I will make sure I keep some with me
Good job, RCD! A lot of people on this site have helped shorten my learning curve, and it’s nice to be able to “pay it forward”. Tight lines, bud.

RCD - There are quite a few fishermen at JICC - I recognize you from there. Hopefully, I can catch up with you on Sunday and we can talk some fishing. The property that we go to on the Man Retreat can lead to some really good fresh and saltwater fishing.
Cool, a flounder on a beetle spin.

I have to give the tip. I have tried DOA on cork, Top water, jerk baits, spoons, and grubs. The accidental BeetleSpins have been producing. The flounder are coming up in the water to hit them. The Rat reds eat them. No trout though
