I need some fresh crab in Edisto area. we are headed down Sunday for some shark fishing. Would love to know where I can get crabs fresh.
Also on another subject, i have heard that if you leave money in a crab trap for crabs that it is socially acceptable to take a few from a trap. This may be bull crap, perhaps some of you could let me know if its ok to leave a $5 bill in a trap and get a couple out. I am sure the person who told me that at the time knew the trapper and I doubt thats common practice but thought I would throw it out there.
Well the captain that told me at the time probably knew the trapper. I kinda figured you would have to know the guy personally. But have no idea if its normal or not.
Nah…daddy wouldn’t shoot anyone…and bot saying its right…but if you are going to take at least pay for what you take. But word of warning…DNR will not tolerate it…evenif you know the crabber. You have to have a license to work “working pots” …and if they saw you pulling one. Even if you say “I know him”. You’d most likely get In trouble. We have pulled pots that had a few bucks in them in the past…as well as many that are empty…and whoever pulled them didn’t even bother to latch the door back or put it back where they pulled it from.
best bet…buy you a few from a market…catch your own…or if you see a crabber ask for a few from them.
Thanks I was hoping you would reply, My main issue is nothing will be open that time of day Sunday morning at 5am. I have a local place I can get crabs but they are dead not alive. Last weekend we seen some trappers out there and bought some menhaden off them for bait. If I see them again I will buy crabs. I understand about dnr though. probably not a good idea.
We asked some crabbers once to sell us some off a working boat, they told us “no, hold on…” and gave us 5 in a laundry basket via a gaff. The crabs didn’t do us any good that day…

Ask them if they have a number you can reach them at when you are fishing there…in case they are it working…daddy saidif you were near him. He’d be glad to give you a few…Glad you found some…
There’s a seafood guy at the corner of 174 and Steamboat Landing. I paid less than $1/live crab. He opens at 9… not sure about Sunday hours. Good bait for the big fish. If you’re going for sharks go ahead and half them.
