Where can I rent a drum or vibrating sander????

I need to sand my deck (16 ft by 10 ft). The ones from home depot are only supposed to be used on interior floors.

Where can I rent one of these sanders?

Thanks!!!

Rental equipment company? Question, how are you going to keep from ripping up sand paper rolls and damaging the drum on nail or screw heads? There is a reason folks don’t sand their dicks.

Great question, Justin! Guess he could use a nail set or screw driver to push them down below the board tops? Of course they will pop up again!

Yep, theres a reason for sure!!

johns island tool rental on maybank hwy next to the fat hen restaurant, the drum sanders need a 220v outlet, definitely make sure to get the nails out of the way or you’ll be buying lots of pricey sandpaper

They are right about the nails or screw heads. I just talked to my guy in my tool rental department ( I am a store manager for Home Depot in the upstate) and the square buff sander one will work on a deck, but if you do not prep the area first, you will damage the paper as well as the sander. Why sanding? Have your thought about using either the BEHR or Rustoleum deck restorer products?? PM me if you have any other questions

Thanks for the responses!!!

You have to punch all the nails down first or you will go thru sandpaper obvisously.

I will not paint the deck again, ever.

I have tried the stripper with pressure and it was too tedious.

The 220V maybe a show stopper though.

Cabdella,

Excellent questions. I have looked at the Behr restorer but I just want to get back to the natural wood.

So the square buff sander from Home Depot is the right fit?

BW,
I was just trying to give options. The square buff sander will work. It doesn’t go as deep as a drum sander would. Just be careful with nails though for sure. It should work just fine.

CaptJ, not sure what that means, but ok!

There’s a Pro tip…Translation, that’s a great suggestion, I agree. Sorry for the mis-spelling of DECK.

if you can’t remove or countersink the nails you’ll be paying for the rubber wheel (what ever it’s called) that’s under the sandpaper

when you get it down to what you want, use the One Time Wood product as a protectant, it’s expensive but will last 5-7 years depending on the sun exposure, the product says 7, I get 5-5.5 on my dock

it comes in Natural, about $75/gallon, or ~$300/5 gal container, it doesn’t go bad or dry out so consider getting the 5 gal container

follow the instructions, a thicker coat isn’t better

if it’s screwed down just flip the boards over if there in good shape.

So what I am gathering from this thread is- if you dont cover your deck right and mess with strippers, you are gonna have to sand your deck to get the bumps off?

ok i think i wore the joke out

Now that’s funny MH!

Cheap belt sander is your best bet. Of course follow all comments on nail heads. 80 grit belts. Knee pads.

Umm, you gonna eat that?
