Where is everyone catching the reds

Went out to toogoodoo last Tuesday and all I got was a gar and stingray. Wondering if anyone is catching them down there or up in the wando or what.

No fish in the Wando either;). Always heard if you cant catch fish north of the 41 bridge that you shouldnt be fishing! Never make it that far but would be a good place to start. Finger mullet free lined under docks has been working well. If you dont get a bite in 15 minutes, pull anchor and move to the next one.

Seawest are you using live finger mullet? I’m having a hard time keeping them alive right now for more than just a few minutes. I don’t have a bait well and have to keep them in a minnow bucket. I’m sure that doesn’t help with the water as warm as it is. Any suggestions?

I am using live finger mullet, although my wife caught her biggest red on a dead, chewed up one the other day I wish I could help you with your problem, but I havent had to deal with that Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help! Good luck

We were using live finger mullet when we were fishing tuesday and didn’t really get any bites. But there were schools of alligator gar everywhere right out of the toogoodoo boat landing. Couldn’t even get them to bite.

To help keep your bait live a bit longer try constantly replacing water and adding some ice. Cold water stays oxygenated a while longer. I was able to keep mud minnies alive for 5 hours doing this the other day.

Early to bed, early to rise, fish like hell and make up lies.

We have been fishing in the Cooper and every fish we catch has been on menhadden. We have tried finger mullet, shrimp, and menhadden. They are most definately the bait of choice for us right now. Who knows? This may change next week. My son caught a nice flounder on menhadden not 2 minutes after we lowered the anchor.

If you were IN Toogoodoo, there has been lots of rats but very few slots and overs in the creeks in the N. Edisto. The slots and overs have been on the flats.

When fishing the Toogoodoo, we have caught the decent sized fish on Blue Crab

Thanks for all the advice!

Good things come to those who bait!

Where are you putting in to fish toogadoo? I’ve been wanting to go kayaking over that way…

Unless you have a suicide mission, I would get some more experience before kayaking over there, lots of large boats with little to no care for the kayakers

Buffered, I live right before you get to the landing and fish Togoodoo several times a week. The water is muddy from all the rain and the reds aren’t biting real good. Try live shrimp as they keep good in a floating minnow bucket. Facing the creek at landing go right for about 1/4 mile and fish around the trees on the left, one line on bottom in about 8’-10’ and one on a float in 3’-4’ up close to the trees on incoming water,if nothing go on up and fish around the pilings on the bottom.Hope this helps,I’m in an old duracraft with johnson or a seahunt with evinrude.

You can’t catch fish on a dry line

Yeah when we were fishing we used mainly big finger mullet on jigs and just were pitching around some structure near there. We didnt get any bites.
