Wheres the crawfish? I know that they are freshwater but figured someone might know where they might be. Im originally from florida. Most guys i talk to at work that are from charleston say they are mostly found in ditches. Can anyone help me out with this please.
They are in the lake too, just spread out more. I saw one this past week in the shallow water by our dock and pointed it out to my son… I showed him how to catch them, but failed, so not sure if he belives my tecnique actually works…LOL As kids, we used to get them out of the ditches near the school. Would always find them in submerged glass bottles…

It was probably 10+ years ago, someone tried to raise crawfish in some ponds off Hwy 6 out of Moncks Corner. I don’t know who owns those ponds or if they are clogged with weeds, but I’d guess some of the breeding generations’ stock has survived in those ponds.
Find out who owns them and try to get permission to explore them. You might find enough for a boil.

Swamps, ditches, ponds, lakes…just about anywhere you have water and vegetation on which the crawfish feed. A lot of water right now. Most of the rivers and swamps are out in the flood plain, which will makes for good crawfish production, but spreads them out. Lakes Marion and Moultrie have seen higher crawfish numbers since the 2007 drought. While the numbers have apparently dropped somewhat since the Peak in 2008-2009, they still can be found in good numbers where you couple good hard structure with lots of vegetation. Moultrie’s rock dike and vegetation = good crawfish numbers. Moutrie’s Hatchery area + vegetation = good crawfish numbers. Upper Lake Marion’s Swamp and flooded forest have been a high density area. Everyone seems to have crawfish stories up that way…
