Hey guys… a friend of mine and I are heading down to Florida next weekend to do some land based shark fishing and I was wondering if someone could tell me if any bait shops around Charleston sell larger bait fish (ie bonito, other larger fish… in 10lb range)
I live in Corpus Christi, TX now… used to live in Charleston, but im not familiar if there are any bait shops carrying large frozen fish like bonito, or stingray etc. in the Charleston area the way they do around Padre Island, TX.
I can’t speak to specifically bait fish, but you should be able to get some good sized other fish from the Wando Shrimp Company in Mt. Pleasant off of Shem Creek. They sell fresh locally harvested fish of various sorts.
If y’all are going down to Sebastian some of the bay shops down there sell big bait but other wise some times people cach jack and they will give them to u if they don’t want them .
Check the docks. Sometimes you can score some good bait from the offshore guys. If you can let them know what you are using it for they might be willing to throw some “bait” on ice for you. Then just meet them at the dock when they return. I have been able to get whole bonita and plenty of fish heads to last several trips.
If you are fishing the panhandle, watch the shore line at first light for large rays. Have a gig ready.
