Where to find a Tiger?

Heard on the radio it was at the Edisto 40.

I love a good pissin contest!

The question was asked how to hook a ray for bait. We both gave good options. I didn’t notice any peeing and I wasn’t in the contest

That’s a dang big tournament fish! Not sure I’d want it in my boat [:0] Not sure I could put it in my boat [:0]

My boat doesn’t even have the horsepower to tow that thing behind it more than a couple miles before I’d grow a beard.

Moral judgment under girds the entire structure of laws and is necessary for the rational structure of any significant statute. The idea that our laws can stand independent of moral foundation is senseless.----- Albert Mohler.

I know I’m late on this but the shipping channel between Beaufort and HH has a 75’ hole. On the P.I. side of the rip (pretty close to the micro wave dish) watch your depth gauge and look for a 45’ drop. Back on the Edisto side the trough you fished by otter has produced many a big shark and I believe the winning shark was caught in that area a few years ago. Also if you put in at steamboat landing try between Deveax(sp) and Seabrook. The bigger the bait the bigger the shark, or so I heard.

Thanks Fred. We caught a 3rd place shark a few years ago in the deep hole in the North Edisto. It was a Lemon. Seems like it was 7.5’ 286lbs.

Not a tree hugger enviro nut but I hate seeing big sharks laying or hanging on the dock.

Yeah I agree, it was done way better this year. The sharks were kept on the boats until weigh in time, and weighed directly at the dock.I heard one guy for sure, on the radio headed to grab ice, to ice his catch down until weigh in time so it didn’t spoil. This was our plans as well, although we didn’t have such luck. They eat good.

Just curious, but would you hate it as much if it were a big Tuna?

There in lies the rub…I love to keep a few fish for the table, so I probably sound like a hypocrite, and maybe rightfully so. I guess the way I look at it, if an animal like that has made it long enough to get that size, (which might be decades for a big shark), one bad decision on biting a baited hook shouldn’t decide it’s fate.
As for the tuna, yeh, I don’t like seeing giant tuna on the dock either, but then again, I love sushi…see, hypocritical.

Is that the glacier bay called Outcast? From HHI

He has some pics of some big sharks on his website too

As long as it going to be eaten I don’t have a problem at all with it. Have a big fish fry, feed the hungry, invite the homeless, dang that’s a lot of shark steaks! I don’t even like sharks, but to each their own taste :sunglasses:

Tuna on the other hand, if I can get it in the boat, it’s coming home with us:smiley:

Just hanging them in the sun until they stink for bragging rights is a whole different matter. Not many people do that anymore.

Precisely, if its getting eaten I don’t see a problem with it. But at the same time It’s hard to see a big fish hanging on the dock whether it be a big shark, w blue marlin, tuna, or anything. What if people kept giant 30lb redfish for tournaments?

Fair enough answer! I was curious were you would take it. Personally I’d rather see the shark, probably because I don’t like them and they seem to be on the rise, I know Tuna are on the decline and have much more respect for them.

I could see a 1 per person per year quota on one over the slot Red with proper tag purchased, but they don’t eat as good after 30" or so imo.

Also imo the only reason the limits are so strict is the lobbyist they have. Lot’s of money for all those that love to hook and release 40-50 a day and then really brag about releasing 60-70 in a trip. I’d love the law to read after you reach your creel limit move to the next species or start boat riding. Think about all the endangered BSB that would not have been thrown back overboard only to die.
