Where to find a Tiger?

We; my brothers, my daughter , and myself are thinking about fishing the shark tournament this weekend. What’s the shallowest yall have been pestered by tiger sharks? We have caught blacktips, lemons, and sand sharks inshore in deep holes. But we have never caught a Tiger. It seems that this is the species that always wins the tournament. I don’t expect any secret holes, but would love some advice. Thanks; Jason.

Had one come up within sight of the jetties last year as we slowed to look at some cuda on the cans just past the rocks. Well over ten feet. They are shallower than you think.

Sounds good. We will be fishing out of Bennett’s point. The weigh in is on Edisto. Im thinking of just trying a nearshore reef. That is if it isn’t to rough for the Key West.

Saw a big one near 4ki last year. Somewhere around 14 ft.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

The world record was caught off the Cherry Grove Pier in Myrtle Beach… 1780 lbs… I wouldn’t suggest the red swim trunks…

Oneal saw one at the Betsy Ross last week.

Dang, all my swimming trunks are red. I only want to do this because the lol bro, and daughter are excited. We did fish it several years ago when I first got my boat and placed 3rd with a 7 1/2 foot 265lb lemon shark. Caught her 100 yards off the beach.

In my experience your best chance is to find a live bottom in at least 50’ of water.

Port royal sound! best place around for them use a whole stingray for bait

Isn’t that what those guys were using for bait that caught that big hammerhead in the flats boat a few years back? I think it was in saltwater sportsman or a similar mag. It was a BIG shark.

I do believe you are right. How would y’all reccomend hooking a stingray? Cut the tail off, and through the front of the head? Or should i just use a wing?

I would tie a bridle rig sewn through the eyes and connect the hook to the bridle at the nose. Need a rigging needle and cord.

you can fish the small ones whole, just ventilate them…make sure you cut the liver as it puts out a ton of oil. On a large ray, cut them into two or three pound chunks and float them from a gatorade bottle and some on the bottom.

No need to go to knitting class with a tiger…they are not picky, impale on hook and go

Yes, Port Royal Sound.

We were throwing a cast net for some pogies just off beach at Hilton Head and one of those big Tigers came up right beside the boat…that was cool!

Ran into some guy’s at Lemon Island ramp awhile back while loading the boat from a day of redfishing and they had an 8 footer in the boat and nowhere to go to clean it. I said follow me to Ladys Island. We got there and when they hung it up from my deer skinner and whole chum bag fell out of it. Also had 5 or 6 circle hooks stuck in the corner of it’s mouth from previous cutoffs.

They were fishing an area where Beaufort River and Broad come together that is called Boca.

8’ is a baby for a Tiger though I believe.

Good luck Jason!

Very true if you are out for fun, but if you are in a tournament where money is involved I’d go the extra step and rig it right. It only takes a minute and increases the hookup percentage. Just me  Lots of ways to catch a shark. Broad river is a good place to do it. So are the beach fronts.

If those tourists on Hilton Head knew what was feeding in those breakers, nobody would ever get in the water

I love a good pissin contest!

Thanks for all the info guys. We got to the A can and decided it was way too rough for our comfort. We ended up fishing in the trough in front of otter, with a 3’ bonnet head to bring home. A 515lb tiger won the tournament not sure the weights of the other 2. A good time was had by all, and my daughter had a GREAT time bringing in the Bonnett head. And that’s what it’s all about for me. Now im itching for some endangered Black Sea bass.

We rode by at the weigh in and that thing was huge. We heard them on the radio after they caught it and had to go check it out.

That is a big fish. Anyone know where they caught it?

No clue. I heard in front Otter at the green can, but I also heard Port Royal. Definitely a nice shark. Ill try to post a pic later.
