How would go about finding a solid, used lower unit for a 1998 Suzuki 60hp Four stroke? Or should I stick with a new one? What should I expect to pay for one? Thanks

Bob Hunt(?) on James Island has an outboard graveyard that he sells parts from if he is still here. Otherwise, start searching the internet and don’t buy one unless they offer at least some sort of warranty. Been there, done that and it was a royal pain in the rear. I think I had my best luck on Iboats. They can also be rebuilt if the case isn’t in bad shape and the gears haven’t welded themselves in there. I won’t tell you what I paid for mine because there weren’t many used ones available and no new ones and you would have a heart attack.

you need to look inland, around large fresh water lakes. Check with dealers near a fresh water. If you find one around here,I’ be concerned about corrosion. Check with Dukes, if any ones has one, he probably does

Thanks for the suggestions. Are there any other manufacturers (Yamaha, Johnson, etc) whose Lower Unit drives are compatable or interchangeable with my 1998 Suzuki 60HP Four Strokes? Or do I have to stick with Suzuki?

you may be able to use a late model four stroke Johnson/Evinrude as they were made by suzuki, but it has to be a four stroke, two stroke will not work
