I need a sacrificial anode for a Minn Kota Endura-Max 55lb freshwater that will be used in saltwater.
I decided to get the variable speed freshwater ($280) instead of the variable speed saltwater ($530) since I can nearly buy two freshwater units for the price of the one saltwater. I’ll just wash it well and put a zinc anode on it.
I have found some online but I am not sure how universal these things are. Anyone have an EnduraMax?

Basically you are saying that the head unit (the motor controls up top) are sealed up a little better, right?
I have a zinc anode coming, so I got that covered. I just can’t fathom them putting another $225 worth of stuff on the saltwater motors. I didn’t pay but $280 for the variable-speed 55lb freshwater.

I used a freshwater minn-kota power drive in saltwater for 7 years. That was one year longer than the previous saltwater model. Saved a ton of money. I also just used a zinc nut tha was very large in diameter on the prop which I ordered from Minn-Kota at the time. I now have my second one which I am using in both fresh and saltwater.
My fishing buddy who is a mechanic says the motors are sealed and they don’t know if the water is fresh or salt. I do have my boat garage kept, and I religiously wash it down with soap and water after each trip.
the motors are sealed the same way
its the motherboard areas that have much better protection, but its definately not $200 worth, unless white powdercoating coating is that much more than black.
one thing i know that is MUCH more expensive, is the sealant they use on the shaft to motor housing connection.
a small tube of the clear “loctite” which is what they use on the white motors, so it doesnt leave a pink ring is almost $200 wholesale
good ol’fashion red loctite is about $6.00
Minnkota doest pay us for the sealant, they say its a “cost of doing business”
they also dont pay very much at all for repairs
we only use the red loctite, and i told Minnkota, that unless they were gonna supply the clear stuff, we were gonna keep using the red. same strength rating, its just red. they said okay.
I wonder if covering the seal around the upper unit with something to prevent water creep would be helpful, or maybe a bead of clear silicone around it. I know it’s not likely to get all soaked up inside, given the way I fish (no rough water), but stuff happens.
