I just came from Auto Zone looking for Stabil and the guy just introduce me to it .Its about 5.99.he said its better than stabil how true is that

it does a great job as a cleaner, but doesnt do anything for ethanol

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

chris - are you saying that stabil does nothing for ethanol or seafoam does nothing for ethanol?

seafoam does nothing for ethanol

No one knows if YOU are THE village IDIOT or not until YOU open your mouth and speak!!!

that was what I thought, I was just making sure I was reading that right… I’ve got 50 gallons treated with Stabil right now and wanted to make sure I was putting my eggs in the right basket.

seafoam is a great stabilizer but make sure you get a fresh set of plugs when you start using it. It does such a good job of cleaning out the system it will also foul your plugs. I use it in everything along with startron for the e10…boats, jet skis, 4 wheeler, chain saw etc… I get mine from Northern.

Seafoam is "not a stabilizer", and does nothing for Ethanol. StaBil, does even less, unless you're looking for a product to guard against "rust" in the motor! All you need to do is "READ THE INFORMATION ON THE BOTTLE", to be informed! bye! PS I use both products mentioned, and regularly, just not for the practices mentioned above!! Seeya, Scott

“STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer eliminates the need to drain fuel during storage, and keeps fuel fresh for up to 12 months or more. STA-BIL now includes more corrosion protection than ever before to help prevent and protect against problems caused by today’s Ethanol-blended fuels. For Marine Engines, use Marine Formula STA-BIL Ethanol Treatment– which contains DOUBLE the corrosion protection, and FOUR TIMES the fuel system cleaners to protect the fuel tank, fuel lines and complete fuel system from the damaging effects of Ethanol in the marine environment.”

This is from the Stabil website. Says it is a Stabilizer. Please inform… what you said contradicts the information from StaBil which is where you said we should get informed…

Says the same thing on the bottle, but no mention of removing Ethanol, only protecting engine parts and carb. parts, from “water” damage caused by using blended fuel. I think Sta-bil presenting this product as an “Ethanol Treatment”, is misleading, at the very least. They also never mention stopping “phase separation”, the reason for the gunk appearing in marine tanks recently. I’m not to here misinform anyone! Heck, I thought Sta-Bil was the “STUFF”, until I read the information on their own bottle, and realized it’s merely a fuel system cleaner, and rust inhibitor. Haven’t we beat this dead horse long enough, E-10, is causing serious, and expensive problems for boaters and fishermen, and should be avoided! In my “very” humble opinion. On the other hand, I know members like Top2Bottom will be here very shortly, to jump my butt, and tell us how many hours on his motors, and never using any E-10 treatment whatsoever. Not sure where this debate will take us, but for now I use only “pure gasoline”, to err on the safe side. Have a good day sir!! Seeya, Scott

Does anything “remove ethanol” or just stabilize it? To me stabilization would mean preserving it in the form that it is in now which is blended… not trying to be a smart a$$, just really trying to find an answer.

Nah, not a “butt jumper” here Scott! lol:) I will say tho that you’re mistaken on the above quote. I ALLWAYS use Startron every time I put fuel in boat. I’ve been a staunch advocate of it ever scince the whole E-10 thing started. I’ve pumped too many thousands of gallons of bad fuel from others boats and cleaned thier tanks out of all kinds of crud from E-10 to not be using it in my own boats! I think you might be referring to Hoppy as he was allways stating that he never used the stuff.
And using pure gasoline is definitly the way to go IF one can find it regurarly, but supposedly one isn’t supposed to mix E10 with non E10.

It’s all a henious plot I tell ya! lol

I must apologize, T2B, didn’t mean to put words to your post, but I knew you’d be here sooner! rather than later. Thanks for refreshing the ole memory, on the Startron you use. I’m a firm believer in using it too, (if you insist on using E-10), it seems to be the best product out there at this point and time. Seafoam is also a great product but surely has nothing, to avoid the problems associated with E-10. Sta-Bil is also a decent product (red or blue), but I still say they’re
misrepresenting themselves, by claiming to be an “Ethanol Treatment”. DDdog, I wasn’t trying to be an a$$ either, and probably should’ve told folks to read the info. and come to their own conclusion on whether Sta-Bil is an “Ethanol Treatment” or not. The facts are obvious if you’ve hung around the E-10 discussions long enough. Take Top2Bottoms advice on the Startron, and I think you’ll be glad you did!! Seeya, Scott

Remember, when you dbl up, you run out in half the time.

Yea, but it seems to work better, wouldn’t you agree!:smiley:Hoppy.

I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to mix the two. Up here, most gas is ethanol free (and $2.20/gallon). I never have to worry about E10 unless I’m at the coast, so I just try to buy as little as possible, but I definitely mix the two.

From what is being said here, MTBE, and E-10 should never be mixed.

congratz

Thanks for your approval Hoppy!!:imp:
