Can anyone direct me to good places to look for used small outboards? Stores, repair shops, etc.
Other than the obvious Craigslist or Ebay.
When I get my tax return, I’m going to be looking for a used 9.9 or 15 hp tiller.
So far, browsing Craigslist only shows me really ancient outboards that I’m not interested in (pre 1990 stuff) because of the chance of obsolete parts.
If you google it you will get several links in the southeast that are rebuild shops. Most all have good reviews. They have some good deals sometimes. Most do cater to larger engines. Small engines are much harder to come by as most people hold on to them. Get with some local dealers to keep an eye out for you. When they do get one it will only last a couple days before it’s gone. I sold a 5 yo 15Merc a few years ago out of the CaroTrader. I got about 25 calls for it. Local guy was there with cash in about 3 hrs.
