Where to next?

I took my 73yr old father and 7yr old son up to lake Hartwell other day. We drove up after he was granted “present” Tuesday, fished until noon Wednesday, then drove back Wednesday. It was hopefully the first of many “boys” trips for the three of us since my mom and father’s wife passes away from a 10yr battle with cancel.

I’ve got a few ideas already, but curious if to anyone has any suggestions. Ideally, I’m trying for a 1-2 night stay and within a 4-5hr drive max from Charleston. Catching a few fish is always important, but we enjoy exploring and experiencing the town too, especially the food.

I normally use hotel points so that saves on that area, but like to keep the trip(s) under $1000.

What else, cooler weather is a plus for my father. I’m thinking of Wilmington, Cape Fear River, Wrightsville Beach so far.

Freshwater and/or saltwater suggestions

On an unrelated note I feel overwhelmed to share, I’ve realized how God truly opens doors when you think He closes them. Upon my mom’s death, I’ve been able to reconnect to a father who’s been taking care of his wife the last 10yrs. God has given us some time now to catch up.

North Myrtle Beach Little River, ocean isle. Little more laided back in that area then it is up around Wilmington. The big reds are starting to show up. trout & black drum starting to move around a little bit more. Couple of the guys I work with catching some big catfish in the brackish water just South of highway 17 bridge.
And there is definitely no shortage on finding somewhere to eat. From fine dining too seafood buffets & and little hole in the wall. It looks like y’all got the important stuff cover. no matter where you end up. The fishing and eating is just a bonus.

I am fragile.
Not like a flower.
But like a bomb.

GOT2GO ; REALLY ENJOY HEARING ABOUT YOU TAKING YOUR FATHER AND SON FISHING TO (JUST BE TOGETHER). I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT YOU ARE MAKING MORE MEMORIES THAN YOU CAN EVEN IMAGINE… MY DAD AND HIS BROTHER {MAY THEY BOTH RIP} WERE IN THEIR LATE 60s-EARLY 70s WHEN ANOTHER OLDER BROTHER PASSED AND THE COMMENT WAS SAID THE ONLY TIME THEY SPEND ANY TIME TOGETHER ANY MORE WAS AT A FAMILY FUNERAL. MY COUSIN AND I SAID WE WERE GOING TO CHANGE THAT IMMEDIATELY… WE ( COUSIN AND I)STARTED PLANNING FISHING TRIPS AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR SOMETIMES TWICE FOR THEM INCLUDEING MY AND COUSINS CHILDREN… MY MOST PRECIOUS MEMORIES ARE OF MY DAD AND UNCLE SITTING AROUND REMINISSING ABOUT GROWING UP , THE WAR YEARS, RAISING THEIR OWN CHILDREN (US) AND SEEING THEIR GRANDS ENJOYING THE FISHING AS MUCH AS THEY DID… UNCLE PASSED FIRST AND WE KINDA DRIFTED AWAY UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN MY AND COUSINS OWN CHILDREN RESTARTED THE EVENT AND NOW WE (COUSIN AND I ALONG WITH OUR GRANDS ) ARE MAKING THE MEMORIES THEY WILL NEVER FORGET… (**() THESE ALLERGIES ARE GETTING BAD !!!:smiley::smiley::smiley::smiley::smiley::smiley:

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

Fall catfish bite should be starting up in Lake Wylie, Wateree, Santee lakes & river system.
Good luck on your adventures & keep us posted.

Thanks everyone. I’m not a pro, but a decent local fisherman. Definitely be on the fall inshore nite as well as the stripers once the season opens. Our next trip will probably be in March-June next year. Roanoke River and N.C. looking strong at the moment, but plenty of time to search. Gonna trailer to Lake Murray in October-November. Thanks again
