Best place to get oysters, good size for cost?
Sellsfish, Crosby’s, Huff’s, Backman’s…they all have local oysters…
The Morris Island Lighthouse www.savethelight.org
Charleston Oyster Co. www.localoysters.com. They clean them up good, all were good size and delivered when you need em. They were really good people to work with.
I’m giving them a try. Looks like a pretty good deal. Just placed an order.
Thanks !

Dont give Huffs any support. I bought three pounds of shrimp from them peeled one pound fryed them up and tasted like the peels were still on. Tried in the pan with butter and salt still bad took them back up there for a refund. They made me wait…would sell me anything else like a castiron skillet and told me not to come back after they gave me back my money… i was born and raised on james island. Been here all my life and i know bad shrimp…and bad busness and mrs. paula(Huffs) IS BAD BUSNESS. Since then two years or more now i send my fishing parters in there(once or twice) to get shrimp to use as bait and still i have seen bad shrimp. Drive that extra few miles and help support other small busnesses

I guess everyone’s got there own opinion. I doubt he’s ever had a stump sound oyster or any N.C. oyster from the Albemarle-Pemlico estuary. Wish we would get some attention in our sounds for oyster reinstatement like they do. Don’t get me wrong we have some wonderful people working on getting our oysters going again but we’ve got a long ways to go IMO. Any way I’ve got two bushels of Stump sounds coming 12-22-12.
I’d give a shiny nickle to see our coast line back in the 15th or 16 century.
I’ve had some very good oysters from Florida, Dad actually started me eating them raw off the water there. Plenty of taste. Now Louisiana and Mississippi oysters are another thing.
Sell’s do you handle stump sound oysters?

Fred we run about 60 bushel per week. They are my favorite on the half shell. Don’t get me wrong, I love my "Carolina cups from Folly, Kiawah and the May river, but the size and flavor of the Stump Sound oyster is hard to beat. We also do about 150 local (Folly/ Kiawah) clusters each week and we also sell Texas and Apalachicola single oysters.

Marvin’s Seafood on Dorchester Rd. It’s my families business. You would be doing good to find oyster prices in town that just match theirs. You won’t find them cheaper and they have some of the best pickers around. Always nice always clean.

Thanks!
Some amazing history on oysters along our coast. Some of the areas around beaufort my son and I have been gathering are getting better. This Saturday has a low tide around 1100 should be good to get some early fishing, couple bushels of oysters, and hopefully not too many cut fingers.

Ditto on sellsfish. Stump sound oysters are big and salty! They are a meal, but Murrells inlet oysters have the best flavor…
