where to put my rods

I have a family trip coming up and I wanted to bring my fishing poles. The main problem I have is where to put them.
I have a full size truck with a short bed 5’5" and all my poles are single piece.
The poles barely fit in the bed diagnally. With playpens and luggage, this is not an option.
Truck bed has a hard tonneau cover and the cab will be full of people.

I’m looking for a creative way to store 4-6 7ft rods.

I say put them in the truck ,strap them down with either bungee cords or velcro straps and go on your way.unless you have a rack built for them.

Double D.

I’ve seen someone use small ss screws and put a few bungees straight across tonneau cover then just lay the rods on it under the bungees. Of course you would want to water seal the holes where the screws are.

strp rods on frame under truck

Put the reels in a bag in the cab or bed and put the rods in a long PVC tube with threaded caps strapped onto the tonneau cover.

Perfect excuse to get some new 2 piece rods:smiley:

Bungees stretched across the bed rails under the tonneau cover. Lay rods on bungees and wrap the tips with a towel to keep them protected.

JMH, I have to admit, I didnt see that one coming. Maybe inside a pvc pipe this could work.
The more I think of it, the more I like this idea.
I’ll dig around under there tonight and see where I could make it fit.

Thanks for everyones replies.

After some looking around and more thought, I realized 2 8ft 4" PVC pipes tied to the bottom of my truck going through security may cause some issues. With that being said, I found this rod holder that you can hang your poles from. DU-BRO Fishing Trac-A-Rod Plus Storage System.
I’m going to mount this to the bottom side of my bed cover.

I also ended up ordering some cheap 2 piece fishing pole combos. Now I can keep those poles in the truck all the time and wont have to run home for gear. I’ll post a pic once it’s all installed.

This is a simple one I made in a couple of hours. I have since replaced the wood uprights with metal ones and added tabs with holes to lock the rods in using a vinyl coated cable and lock. I also hook small bungees around each reel and hook it to the back of each holder to keep them in.
