where to take kids nearshore/offshore tomorrow

I’ve got the day off and was going to take my kids out tomorrow. They have not fished past the jetties before. I was thinking Capers or the 60. I’ve never been to Capers and only fished the 60 once. I’d love to head to 100’ but I don’t if they will get sick or bored and need an exit strategy. Also its just me and the kids, though the oldest (14) can drive the boat and they can work the radio. I’d like to stay close and safe.

I’d like the possibility of catching something other than juvenile bsb. I am leaning toward going to Capers R8 with clams and/or fiddlers as well as squid hoping for sheeps or spades as well. But the 60 is just a bit further and has a lot of live bottom in the surrounding area. On the other hand I can save the gas and just let them pull up 8 inch bsb at the chs nearshore for a couple hours, head back and take em to lunch and call it a win. They will probably be happy catching anything.

What do you think? Experiences with kids?

Sheeps at capers would be fun. 4 kI is closer to the beach and can produce well too at times.

Based on my experience, you are going to catch a ton of juvenile bsb at either one of them, no matter what bait you put down there. Kids will have fun though.

You have to move around a bit, but once you get away from the BSB, you can do well on the sheeps at Capers. With that said, OR is right, there’s about 10million sea bass on the reefs.

If you can trailer, put in down at Cherry Pt. and 4KI is right around 10 miles out. The menhaden have been hanging out by the dead forest by Botney bay the last couple of times we have been down there. If you are running out of the Jetties then R8 is going to be a shorter ride. Make sure you net some Menhaden and put a livey out the back whereever you go. Good luck.
