Trolled and jigged spoons in the big water, but fish just weren’t there in numbers like they have been. Worst day in a while. Covered alot of water and only picked up 2 and a cat.
Couldn’t believe this little cat hit that big spoon…
Cats are suspended in the big pool big time. We had a 30" channel hit a weight less planer in 170’ of water today and what seemed to be a big Blue (slimed the entire leader) come off as well in that water depth.
Tough day for everyone I talked to. Many boats with zero fish. We had the big channel and 2 striper (27 and 28"). We marked some very active fish that would streak 20-30’ up to the baits but would not commit. I agree though we marked nowhere near the amount of fish we did earlier in the week.
Talked to a few people who stay on the fish regularly and all agreed it seems the fish are staging to make a move (coming off the humps into the channel). This week we aren’t supposed to get out of the 80s and nights in the 60s with a night or 2 in the 50s. We could see fish make a move up lake or come up even higher in the water column. Of course this is all just guys talking…lol…
Point being…don’t think any us knows where they went…lol…but I wish I knew.
“All fisherman lie. And if they say otherwise, then they’re lying”
I caught a bunch of perch, 5 smallish stripers, and some nice channel cats while trying out a couple of new different spoons. Biggest cat was a little over 11 lbs. Had to quit after the 5th striper. Wish I could have kept fishing longer. I’m ready for “5 and done” to be over. Didn’t fish any water deeper than 30’ and all fish hit hit like they were starving. Lots of suspended baitfish were in the area I was fishing. So thick I could see them. Mostly 3" to 4" shad.
Second that on tough fishing today. However, I only fished from 12:30-3:30 after sleeping in. I only caught and released 2 fish while out there, but both were 7-8 pounds-- one on a planer and one on a freeline. I do think the fish are getting ready to move uplake from the big pool.
I was fixing to write a post to ask people for suggestions on what might be wrong with my Lowrance.
Fished on Friday 9/23. Rode the main channel from towers to Spence without marking any fish. Dropped lines and drifted from Goat to Spence with no bites and no fish marked.
Rode from Spence to the condos - checked around Frey, looked in 18 mile creek - looked in Jakes. No fish - saw one gar caught. Then back to Spence and rode channel to sandy beach area.
Checked around Ken Hite’s and Johns creek - then Beards Creek - same results so headed home for lunch.
After three plus hours of “hunting” the only real marks I had were an occasional straight line going downward from 20 to 40 feet which I figured was a fish moving away from the transducer/boat.
Did see a beautiful bald eagle perched in a tree which reminded me how lucky we are. A bad day fishing is better than a good day in any other country on Earth.

One of the things about a slow day is it gives you an opportunity to take in things you otherwise may not think much of. That’s why when you see someone, post pics of a pretty sunset or sunrise on the lake, you can be pretty sure it was a tough day of fishing. LOL
Last Friday, I put in about 10 PM, brought the dog to Spence for a swim and then fished some, but the fishing sucked and I was tired, so I anchored up in a cove to sleep and try in the morning.
There was no moon and we were in a dark cove where my anchor light was the only light around. The sky was perfectly clear, there was no wind and the temp was probably low 70’s.
Laid up on the deck with a PFD for a pillow and just stared at the sky until I finally dozed of. Absolutely beautiful
Probably saw 3 or 4 shooting stars too and I did make a wish each time, but still only wound up with 3 fish.
