Wheres the crawfish? I know that they are freshwater but figured someone might know where they might be. Im originally from florida. Most guys i talk to at work that are from charleston say they are mostly found in ditches. Can anyone help me out with this please.
Best crawfish in the area is at Sellsfish seafood up in Summerville.
Honestly I’m not sure there’s much of a fishery for crawfish around here. There have been crawfish farms in the past, and I’ve spent a lot of time plunking around in various streams, creeks, and ditches, and rarely see any of the reds or anything of any eating size.
That’s not to say that they are not out there, but I’ve not heard of it.

BTW since you posted this in the offshore section, are you perhaps making a nice cryptic reference to bugs?

I actually found one in the street in front of my house last Sunday (Summerville)… I’m not sure if the rain pushed him out of the woods or the ditch (50 yards away).
Everytime I buy more than we can eat from Sells, I’ll take a few dozen and through them in the ditch. I’m sure they are multiplying.
Seriously though…If you have traps and want to wade a swamp I know a place where I have seen hundreds of them swarming in Berkeley County. PM me if you’re interested and I’ll tell you where to go.
Lost our farm house in Marion a few years back when the Big Pee Dee flooded. When we went in to clean up, the floor was covred in hundreds of crawfish. I’ve always wanted to set traps but don’t care to wade around our swamp in the spring/summertime.
Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.
out of season at all seafood places. spring is the only time to really buy them here unless they were shipped in. But even that is almost impossible to find. let me know if you found some
Had 80 lbs delivered to my door in under 24 hours. Ordered around noon on a Thursday and they were at my doorstep by noon the next day.
Very little dead loss (under 3 lbs). I ordered the “field run” and there was a good mix of size to them.
You will need to immediately take them out of the cooler and spray them down with a waterhose and put them back in the cooler with some
ice to keep them cool until you are ready to cook.
I try to support the local shops as much as possible, but it is hard to justify the $ difference if you are ordering a large quantity.

Maybe this fall or next spring now we are getting fresh water again, been so dry for so long we have very few around here. Daughter and I set 3 traps in the creek that borders Dad’s property last weekend. Two was all we got. Let those go. 8 years ago I’d agree with you. Got my fingers crossed that maybe the red fin pike will return as well.
Sells, is April - June the season for harvesting them commercially?
