Just curious, I’ve always had good luck with the albright when tying braid to monofilament. Any reason why you are using the FG instead of the albright? I watched a video on the FG knot and it seemed like a royal pain…

I like it on my spinning gear because it’s so thin – I can tie 15lb braid to 20 or 30 lb mono and barely notice that it’s there. I just started experimenting with putting a bimini in my braid though, so I’ll probably use the albright if I’m tying a double braided line to a leader. I’ve also heard that the FG knot is stronger than the albright, but I haven’t ever tested it.

FG is actually stronger and much, much slimmer that the albright. You can’t tell when it runs out the rod eyes when casting. Its not hard to tie once you’ve done it a few times.

Very true! This is very similar to the GT knot, which finishes with a knot in the flouro. I like this knot too, it is even thinner than the GT, even though they are both like Chinese finger traps on the flouro! Tough to beat IMO.
But for straight braid, you cant beat the strength and ease of the polomar!

Thanks for all the info folks.
Stump, you may have to give us a little seminar on the trip.

Page Ranking to Floro (Courtland has an excellent video on YouTube), takes time to tie thought. Use an Alberto tying on the boat or Albright. To terminal, a short 40 turn Bimini to either a Palomar or Cats Paw.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.
