Which knot for braided line?

I recently bought a used rod/reel combo on here and it came already spooled with braided line.

This is my first experience with braid and am curious which knot you use.

Can I still use the old “Improved clinch” or maybe the “Palomar”?

Thanks.

I kind of figured that, but wanted to hear from those with experience.

Can I still use the “Improved Clinch”, or not?

Thanks guys!

edit

Clinch knot is not recommended for braid.

Surgeon’s loop. Super fast, strong, easy to tie with cold wet fingers (kayak fishing guy)

And I can change lures without cutting it

I never have any problems with a uni, uni to uni or snell knots. I have thoroughly tested them, and uni is a really simple not. I use snell knots for snell hooks or hooks that have a gap in the eye which braid will slide through.

I have always used the uni and never have had a problem. One more thing- Always make sure you wet any type of knot before pulling it tight when using braid.

I’ve been using the San Diego knot for fluorocarbon and braid for about 3 years. It reminds me of the uni knot. I sometimes have to retie the braid if the knot doesn’t snug up correctly. Haven’t had the knot fail or slip yet. Pretty easy to tie once you learn it. I always wet the line before snugging it up.

I’ll try the Palomar, as I’m familiar with it and the Uni.

I need to learn the Surgeon’s and San Diego knots.

Thanks everyone!

palomar is very reliable, but ive also never had a properly tied and sinched down clinch knot fail even with sharks or big redfish. that will probably vary between brands, but with power pro or cajun braid ive never had a problem with either knot.

I’ve had a clinch knot pull out of braid, not mono but I don’t tie the improved clinch. I have put my clinch knots to the test on very heavy fish where I was out classed. Palomar for braid but I learned the hard way with either if it isn’t pretty, especially the clinch, like doesn’t pull down right, cut it off and try again. It will embarrass you…well I got a little off topic. Palomar lol

The fg knot is the best knot for braid to mono or floro, hands down.

If I’m tying braid directly to a swivel and not to leader, Palomar.

Tying to mono leader, FG knot.

Palomar. FG is so much better/easier the 2nd and third+ time you tie it. First time was a PITA… after that, no sweat…
