I posted this same question on a catfish site. Decided to do the same thing here.
Which Navionics Chip do you recommend for the HDS-10 Gen 2?
I mainly fish the Santee Lakes & Georgetown areas.
I occasionally fish the nearshore reefs out of Georgetown, but mainly inshore.
How much detail(s) should I expect in the Upper Santee Lakes, nearshore reefs, etc?
I want to make sure I purchase the correct chip - too many choices out there.
Have you fired up the HDS-10 yet, I was at Cabelas in Wichita recently and was amazed at the inland lakes detail on an HDS-8 Gen 2, in particular I looked at Moultry and Marion. I would suggest firing it up if you haven’t done so yet and look at what it has hard loaded.
My Gen2 HDS7 is good enough for me from the factory. It sounds like we fish the same type stuff and I think once you play with it then it will be more than enough. I do have an older Fish n Chip from Lowrance that I use offshore for more detail, but the inshore, river, and lake stuff is pretty good.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes, I have checked it out at Santee and Georgetown.
The maps that are on there now are pretty good. Much better than the original HDS-7 that I had.
That’s my big question ??
Will the Navionics improve any on what is already loaded into the HDS-10 for the areas that I fish?
I’ll keep researching info and testing out the HDS-10.
I don’t know how soon you are looking at getting a chip, but I have a new NAVIONICS GOLD chip in my Hummingbird and am planning on putting it in the HDS-8 when I get home in about 10 days and I can let you know if there is a significant improvement.
