I have a Proline CC. The fuel filter in located underneath in the bilge. Which Racor SpinOn do I need. The one with the metal bowl or the clear plastic bowl?

Can use the clear plastic bowl with drain if there is no “source of ignition” below decks. ie: gas generator, motor, etc…

personally, below decks I prefer the regular spin on without a bowl. Odds are, you don’t look at it often enough to make the clear bowl worth the money.The drain fitting is nice, but I find most people keep draing the bowl rather than replaceing the element, the drain is also a place for fuel to leak if its not preoperlly tightened(and the seals need repalceing time to time). The most common arguement is that if it gets full of water, you can drain it and keep on using the boat(even while under way in some circumstances). But I find that if installed below deck, you don’t know water has filled the filter till the engine starts crapping out, then trying to drain the filter. and tightening it back up((while drifting in seas), with you head under the deck upside down, is not that easy to do. I recomend just using the regular 10 micron spin on long element, and keeping spare(or two) on board for emergencies. Just use a spin on oil filter wrench for removal, install the replacemnt by hand, prime the bulb and keep on boating. I allways dump the old fuel in a container to see whats in it( a gatorade jug works good), to see if it was water or something else going on. If you get in a bad situation, after you dump the filter it may be reused for emergency situations(didn’t have a spare). Teh racor bowl type filters ae excelent filters, but they seals and orings are easy to picnh if installing in a hurry
