Since work is keeping me off the lake, I’ve decided I at least deserve a few new toys with my some of my OT. First one is going to be a boga. I see Berkley and Rapala make one with a digital scale, but from pics online at least, look a little cheesy compared to the Boga-Grip.
Anyone own any of these? Recomendations? Right now I’m leaning toward spending the extra $ for a Boga-Grip.
I’ve got the Berkley grip. On my budget, it works fine and if it goes over the side, I wouldn’t be devastated (I do use a float to prevent it sinking). I just make sure I wash it with fresh water when I get home.

I have a 30 lb. BOGA. It is very accurate. I believe it is the only hand-held scale that can be IGFA certified. Make sure you use some kind of float, because it sinks rapidly:smiley:
It is very good for determining an accurate weight within 1/4 lb. It is not very good for culling fish that are within ounces of each other. However, a $10 balance beam from WalMart works great for culling.
Also, make sure when you weigh a fish with the BOGA, that you hold it over the inside of the boat. There is no float that will save your scale if you drop it in the water with a fish attached:smiley:
are these things as bad for the fish as people say? I have been looking at them, but worry about hurting the fish. What can be done in order to help with this? certain way of holding it while with the BOGA?
The lip grippers (all of them, not just a boga) really help control the fish. It’s only bad when you use that to hang all the weight of a large fish with them. if you put your hand under the belly of a large fish, while holding the boga with the other, there should be no problems
I have the Berkley without the scale and wish I wouldve bought one with the scale. The salt froze it up one time but I shot a little WD40 to it and it works fine again. Just rinse it if you head to the coast.
Thanks all for the input. I went with a 30 lb Boga-Grip and ordered a nice size float for it. I fish inshore sometimes and it sounds like they hold up really well around the salt water.
The 15 lb is unfortunately probably plenty for me, but I went with the 30 lb in case any of you ever want to borrow it. LOL. Actually, I think both were the exact same price.
Bob I just tried to post a pic as well and it timed out before it could post. Probably something going on with the server. Toms came up cause he used photobucket instead of the new way I think.

Striperskiff, be sure you ck out the float to see if it will hold the Boga. I bought one that I thaught was big enough and it wasn’t, had to go swimming to retreive the boag. Great tool, cant ware it out!
