Whose buying what?

I have a Scottrade account that I log into about once a year. I started it a few years ago with $500 simply to play around with. then I didnt. I know own 2 different stocks worth about $1000.
ATW, which I think skineej suggested.
and OVTI which I have know Idea where it came from.
Can you tell I don’t pay attention to this.
So what are you buying…in the small money realm

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

My wife has some Skyworks and Petroquest that have done pretty well. I bought Ford when it was under $7.00 and it is now over $15. Not getting rich but we have doubled our investment over the last 4 years. It is really just something for her to play with.

I’m not really buying a whole lot right now. I’m hoping for some sort of market pullback. That being said, I did buy quite a bit of shipping stocks and they aren’t much higher than when I bought them. Those that survive should come back. Also gotta wonder how much raw materials will be shipped to Japan over the next several years. I own (PRGN, EGLE, BALT, TRMD, GNK) in that category. All of them are like 70-90% off of their highs. Some may not make it, but hopefully a few of them do. Some of them used to pay ridiculous dividends, but they have either been scaled back or cut. I’m hoping that in the next 3-5 years that these stocks will turn around and eventually their high dividends will be reinstated. That’s the payout. They might under-perform for a while, but I’m okay with that looking at the longer term. I did something similar with BBEP who completely cut their dividend. Stock dropped like a rock and I bought it. They reinstated their dividend a year later and it shot up like 30%. I sold immediately and I am kicking myself ever since! Now it’s WAY up and just today, they announced yet ANOTHER dividend increase. I could have made a LOT more than 30% if I had some patience! Anyway, the point is, buy low!!!

Also, I have some money tied up in natural gas through (ERF and HGT). ERF has gone up like 60% since I bought so I am not buying any more. HGT has only gone up like 15% since I bought, so it might still be worth a look. 80% of HGT holdings are natural gas. If you don’t believe in nat gas, this isn’t the stock for you. I think that with inflation on the rise, any commodity is a safer bet than cash at this point though. Gas prices are pretty low on a long term historical level, so if they rebound in the next 5 years, then I make bank. Both of those stocks pay a monthly dividend as well so I am picking up dividend checks every month.

Definitely stay away from anything Chinese no matter how attractive they look. More than 50% of them report fraudulent numbers and eventually they ge

Several years ago I purchased $10,000 worth of BBT stock and put my dividends back into stock . Today it’s probably worth $500 more than what I paid . I sent them a letter to send me a check for my dividends last month … patience skinneei???
I wish I knew how to trade stock .

Like Skinjeel, I’m waiting on a pullback. Normally, this time of year, nat gas, oil, and power have fallen to the cyclic lows, and I purchase more.
This year has been so weird in that those are actually up at this point. So I wait for a market wide pullback, or a pullback on oil prices.

The only area I am considering right at this moment is air transportation mutual fund (FSAIX). It should jump on falling oil prices. (I use mutual funds when I can’t buy sufficient positions of 2-3 stocks in a sector.) Overall, though, I’ve been taking profits, and about 26% in cash, and I’m out of any purely speculative stocks positions.

It's not just what you buy, but what price you get it for! The difference is that you probably bought BBT when it was at it's peak (bought "high"). For the shippers, I'm buying them at historic low prices. They might continue to suck for a while, but eventually there will be some sort of rebound. Also, with dry bulk shippers, I am hoping that they will see a boost from rebuilding demand in Japan.
