It’s all about numbers…I’ve had upwards on 150-200 shrimp in some throws. The best ever consistent set was 3.5 passes…35 throws with the
numbers consistent the entire time. That was at Crab Bank 4-5 years back. Otherwise it has been cases of getting 1/2 cooler in 4-5 throws
but we already had 1/2 cooler when they got that thick. Those cases were all in Bulls Bay. When you get 150 jumbos in a net you know it. The most memorable in Bull’s Bay was when the tide was almost low but still moving, the water around the poles was about 4 ft, and I was throwing my 10 ft Tim Wade net. We got a bit more than 1/2 cooler in 4 throws and just had to quit. Someplace I have a vid. Normally we throw 8 ft nets,
but that was an opportunity wherte the 10 ft net really added the numbers. These cases are not the norm though. Often it’s grinding out a cooler with 15-30 a cast, and with many casts with much less. Usually more like 8 - 12 runs, and more sometimes.

You just need to learn the techniques for a big net. I personally have not, but there are some tiny pygmy people in South America that throw what appear to be 18-20 footers with ease. Just gotta shift the weights around.

That’s a fact, it’s all in the technique and loading, not size. I’ve seen many little men and women throw some nets that make me say WOW! I know a skinny little kid who’s 14 and can throw a 20’ mullet net perfect.
I’ve never shrimped around a bait pole, so can’t say how many passes I make. Sometimes they come easy, sometimes not Usually do pretty good.

No wind I can throw a 12 footer but any wind at all and the net has a mind of it’s own. I seem to catch the same amount hung on the outside of the net as I do in. It takes full rain gear to stay dry and a strong left shoulder to make it for a few hours. Your hands are raw from the fatigue to your skin. But there are some who can do it Touche’ my shrimping friends.
See ya on the water/19’ Neptune/115 Johnson.
Its all about loading not about your height. my girlfriend who is 5’2" can throw a ten foot net. She cant throw it all night but for at least one or two passes.
I can get 50 pounds in one pass. I pass my cash to the shrimper and boom, I have a box of shrimp.
I think the best time on a cooler full was about 2 hours of throwing. I’ve heard the stories but never been apart of it with the 8 throws and a cooler.
Fishermen seem to have a few “one uppers” mixed in to our bunch. I see it all the time at the marina, one person will catch 8 reds and the next guy says he caught 9.

If “Passes” is the equivalent of “Fishing Trips” then I can cooler out in 4 or 5 passes as well
Best we’ve ever done is 3-1/2 passes…35 casts …with a 7-foot net. Usually it’s 8 to 15…depending on tide and conditions.

Takes me 0 passes to cooler out. I don’t have a boat, just go off the dock. Oh, and I’ve never coolered out.
