Why Knot 8-8 report

Decided to skip the troll and do a bottom trip. We pushed off the docks at 6 and arrived at the grouper hole at 8:30. We couldn?t find the grouper but we were catching some vermillion and then the AJ?s show up in force and proceeded to destroy several vermilions in the processes of being reeled into the boat. So after moving around a bit the grouper bite came on. We got a huge one in the boat as well as several others. We landed too many amberjacks to count. They wore us out. We then went in search of other bottom dwellers after the grouper bite cooled off. There we packed in some BSB more vermilion and other fishes. The ocean was awesome today. There were storms everywhere but lucky for us we were just not where they were. All and all it was a great day of fishing with some success on the bottom. Looking forward to going again!

Some asked from my last report to include some pics of the boat so I threw in a couple here.

Nice haul and sweet ride!

nice stud scamp there!

Awesome report!
Was hoping next Sunday was a good day to fish…looks like it was:)
Seriously though, nice!

Is that a big ring-tail in with that nice mess of fish?
Good haul, pretty boat!! Bet that thing will haul the mail with the 350s

Looks like a great day. Based on the pics, the water looks like it could not have been much better. Nice haul!

The big grouper looks like a yellowmouth rather than a scamp. Curious whether you weighed it.

CHUNK. Nice fishing.

I didn’t weigh it but I would guess close to 30 pounds. It took a good heave to get it on the cleaning table. 14 grouper filets came out of that fish alone.
Yep I thought it was odd to get a ring tail out that far. Thanks for the catch on the date I guess I was tired lol.

I think the world record for yellowmouth is around 22 lbs. Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like a solid low to mid twenties fish.

That jagged tail really looks like a yellowmouth.

It was pretty heavy. Biggest we have ever caught. Thought it was a scamp. That would be a bummer if we missed a shot at a record. Oh well I will savor every bite.

Maybe Phin or Sells could give their opinion. Be interesting to know.

Low 20’s Yellowmouth. Very nice pile of fish! Even the Joltheads and ringtail are good eats.

Looked it up the state record is 22.8 pounds. We may have been close. Thanks for the reply Sells.

For the uninitiated, what is a jolthead and a ringtail? Real name?

Jolt head porgy and spot tail pinfish^

Fish is over 23 pounds…

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Yep…That was a big oops on my part.

How did that “world record” taste?
