Wife does not fish , will SCDNR believe that ?

Sorry for the rant on your thread colvinji.

Buy her a license and when you hook a big one hand her the rod and let her reel it in. If shes anything like my wife she’ll thrilled.

At 9956 on the post count, I’d say that you’re definitely a “Dedicated Conversationalists”.

Fred67- Not trying to be a jerk, but am I to assume you only fish to eat? Once you have enough for dinner you go home? You practice zero catch and release? Just trying to understand your post.

Fritz will not be running out of honey for a while

I’m a Dedicated Conversationalist. I’m pretty sure my wife is too. And my 8 year old, especially conversations about Frozen.

I have bought my wife a license every year for the last 14 years. She has fished less than 14 times in those years. If she ever wants to real in a fish I’m not going to say no. You can pick a fight with the big bad government or your wife. Easy choice.

Actually, when I do fish and get a limit I then ride the river and enjoy the beauty. No Jerk… I’m pretty thick skinned!

I actually fished this afternoon in one of my ponds for the fun of it. I practice a lot of catch and release when I do fish now -a -days. I will say, when I plan a fishing trip I do so with the intention of bringing some home to eat.

As to fishing for food… When I grew up there was not free leisure time to just go fishing for fun. You caught fish and brought them home to be eaten then or later. I did not grow up poor by any means, but I was taught that when you take an animal (or fish) it was for food… not fun. That has stuck with me. I think that is true conservationism. Not fishing for a photo op. But I’m old school things change some old schoolers don’t.

I remember dad bartering Fish for a six pack for him, a mountain dew and a baby ruth bar for me, from Jim Smith’s store at Roadside. Was that conservation… maybe. But is was a lesson that all things in life are not free and work for what you want.

I really get chapped when people say they are conversationalists and then target Breeder fish that can not be legally kept knowing that many will die. Catch all you want… but don’t give the B.S. that you are a dedicated conservationist.

Reeldawg, I’ve had many days that I’ve caught and released 40+ spot tail and laughed and enjoyed the Hello out of it. Now I think back and see that is not conservation, that is whole sale slaughter. When they are biting like that I can guarantee not all lived… many did die.

Ahh the good old conversations about conservation, they’re always entertaining on cf.c

“Valued comments from everyone . Oh well , I did give a donation to DNR this past week when I renewed my combo license thinking you had to be 65 to receive a grattis license .”
You can get it at 64.
I always bought my wife a license even though she rarely went with me. when she turned 64 I bought her the whole combo package.
It’s a little confusing by the way it’s worded but I believe you can have up to 4 rods per licensed fisherman on a boat as well as on land.

I’d rather fish than eat.

Dang, I get it! I’m surprised Bolbie didn’t get me on my grammar. I guess I should edit…

Probably just delete it all… What’s the point, right?

I am certainly not a dedicated conservationist as I still kill pretty much all snakes I can plus a few other predators, I guess maybe I could be called a partial conservationist. ?

For so many that probably misunderstand me, I do love looking at fish photo’s and the smiles they make. I like catching fish. Times are changing and fishing pressure will only continue to grow with our increasing population. I would venture to say if someone wanted to be called a dedicated conservationist they would be chartering sight seeing trips. I’m also glad we have commercial fishermen that supply those that don’t like to fish or have time for it a good source of protein.

Edit: if I were to take a charter I would give Capt fritz a go. I’ve heard no bad experiences and seems his customers have a great time. I think Fritz has a great business and wish him and all our Charter captains the best luck now and in the future.

Jim Smiths store at roadside!!! My oh my the memories I have from that store. We used to hunt Cherokee plantation when I was a youngster. Way before it was the big money it is now. My Uncle always took me hunting and we always stopped at Roadside for rice puddin in the morning and a thick cut bologna sandwich for lunch with thick cut red ribbon cheese. I grew up not but a few miles from there.

never hunted Cherokee, but did a lot on the Bluff and a little on Big Survey. Still a lot of nice deer in that area.
