Wife does not fish , will SCDNR believe that ?

Wife is wanting to go more often now . If I have three setups on my rods and SCDNR checks license would they believe me ?

Depends on the officer. Probably have pretty good luck with a jury trial though.

Yep it’s a sad day when your wife finally gives in and starts going out with you only to have that cloud over your head saying will he give me a ticket or not . I have the upmost respect for the DNR , hope they would feel the same when you say she’s not fishing

Why not just purchase a license for her? They’re cheap enough, and it’s an easy way to avoid any conflict.

What he said.

God bless the “ignore” function.

A long time ago DNR payed me a friendly visit on the water. I was on a date and had 3 rods. She was taking pictures and enjoying life, all dressed up. The officer said it wasn’t a problem, but he likes to see 2 rods or less per license unless everyone has one.
They also tell me to leave my throwable and jackets out in the open every visit, but that hasn’t happened either.

Just tell her to stay home till she can receive a grattis lic. at 64!

As long as she does not touch any of the fishing rods she is fine. Verified by a game warden I know, them again, some DNR think differently from others. Can’t go wrong with buying a license for her.

How much is a license for fishing these days?

Waste not want not. I’ll be danged if I’ll buy a fishing licence for my wife just to appear legal when I am. Now if my wife was fishing I’d buy her a licence. Enough is enough. DNR are very reasonable and smart people. Good Gracious people.

I was always told it’s not what you make in life but how much you can save. Colvinj, if you have a clear conscience the heck with buying an unneeded licence for your wife.

“Why Bruce?”

The answer is $10 and the money helps our fishery, doesn’t surprise me Fred only wants to take and not give back if he doesn’t have to. Make sure your wife never touches a rod on the boat even for a minute or it could be considered that she was fishing, $10 shouldn’t make or break anyone but to each their own. My best gal has a saltwater license even though my charter permit covers her on my boat. Think of it this way Fred, for an extra $10 you could kill another limit of fish when you go out, that should be enough right there to make the $10 worth it.

The following was taken from the DNR website:

Game fish may be caught with only hook and line, pole, artificial pole, or rod and reel. A fisherman only may use four of these game fishing devices at the same time, except when fishing in a boat. A fisherman fishing from a boat may use an unlimited number of lawful game fishing devices if all persons in the boat sixteen years and older have valid fishing licenses.

I will try to remember to call a friend of mine at DNR next week to get some clarification. I was told years ago that a person had to be seen actually fishing to be charged with fishing without a license…unless they were the only person in a boat full of rods.

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

If you fish in public waters paying $10 for a license to help the fisheries out is a no brainer. I have been complaining that $10 isn’t enough. Since they get almost zero help from taxes in this state.

I agree with Fred completely. Would it be easier to give in and just buy a license? Yes of course, but Fred’s right. Quit backing down. Fight for your rights or you will lose them.

Dear lord. What’s the deal with people wanting to increase taxes? The money we give them now is a waste. And you want to give them more!?

Valued comments from everyone . Oh well , I did give a donation to DNR this past week when I renewed my combo license thinking you had to be 65 to receive a grattis license .

I would mention the extra license extra limit scenario but that only applies to people that catch fish.

True. Considering I don’t freeze fish, I only take what I’m going to eat that night or the next day

Ok here goes. You PM me and call me an asshat?!. (yes I still have it) No you are the asshat. Everyone in my family has a license because we all fish from time to time because we Love eating fish. You assume to know me but you don’t know scat.

And don’t use Kill, say Harvest. That’s what I do, asshat.

You claim you are a dedicated conservationist? Right? Does a person who advocates or acts for the protection and preservation of the environment and wildlife make money off said resources hoping that the non-keeper fish they catch lives after the photo op day after day?

Just so you know I don’t have a problem with people that target fish they can not eat, I just don’t understand their joy in torturing an animal that they are not going to eat. And then some of these people claim to be Dedicated Conversationalists. Maybe it’s because a fish isn’t vocal. Ever heard a deer or rabbit bleat out in Pain? I wonder if a fish did the same if you would have so many customers? Just food for thought. I guess that’s why you don’t see people snagging a deer in the mouth just to get a picture of it and let it go.
