Longtime reader, first-time poster. Thanks for all the info you folks pass along in your posts. Wondered if any of you fished a Wilderness Systems Ride 135? Found a good deal on-line and might pull the trigger. Pros, cons, necessary modifications, etc? Thanks in advance.
From all that I have read it is a great boat. Very stable and a nice fishing platform. May be a little bit slower due to the beam, weight and length of the boat. DolphinD on here fishes this boat and does nothing but praise it. He works at TimeOut Sport and Ski in Mt.Plesant. I would give him a call before you buy online. He may be able to sell you at a good price and it is always good to buy local. The owner of the shop is a good guy too.
Once I found a good deal on a kayak. The local shops came close to matching the price of the online deal but it wasn’t good enough. I passed on the local shops and bought the yak. Now with that being said I did not take into account for shipping. Once I added that to the equation then I may as well went ahead and bought one from DolphinD. If that wasn’t enough I started to have problems with the boat and had no dealer help. i was on my own. Had to ship it back to the dealer and that cost me another $200. if I would have bought from TimeOut then they would have taken care of the problem for me.

I went to TimeOut about 4 weeks ago looking for a system to mount a kayak to the top of my car. A major expense.
I am 55 years old.
The Salesman was about 23 years old.
I asked him some fairly simple questions.
He acted like I didn’t matter.
If that store was on fire, I wouldn’t piss on it to put it out.
Instead of spending $250-$400 on a system at Timeout, I spent $35 at PepBoys and didn’t get a lot of Mount Pleasant/Timeout Sports sheshe guff and fashion kayak double talk.
sorry you had a bad experience but i have been a customer for 2 years and those guys have gone out of their way many times to help me and others out.
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. </font id=“size2”>

Same here… I have been a customer there for 5 years now and they always take care of people… Give Dolphin Dave a hoot and he’ll make sure who ever did that is taken care of…

Tarpon 160os
I have been a customer of theirs since they opened their doors around 15 years ago. There is one guy there that I don’t care for for the reason you said. Talk with Dave and he will set you up.

Back to the original topic. A ride 135 is a great kayak. slower than a Tarpon or similar 14foot class boat, but A LOT more stable. The ride is a very easy standup fishing platform and a decent paddling kayak. I prefer a Tarpon or a Native Manta Ray. I’ll take speed over stability up to a point. This year I spent about as much time standing in my yak as I did sitting. The Native Manta Ray is a standing platform, but just barely.

If you want a boat that is easy to stand in, and doesn’t paddle like a barge, the Ride is a great boat. Yes, there are faster boats out there, and there are a few that might be a bit more stable, but I have been nothing but happy with mine. Come grab one from our rentals if you would like to give it a try. FYI, we do have a 2009 Spruce green ride on sale right now for $675. It is a new boat, but has managed to get a few scrapes and scratches on the bottom.

Love me some Time Out Sports. I bought a Ride 135 from there and love it. It has gotten ALOT of dust on it as of late but Im thinking this weekend it may find water
