Wildlife ID Help

So, last night dogs were going nuts, I wast around and my wife went out and saw a creature that she said looked like a possum, except it had long skinny legs and its back was about 2’ high. The tail was short and furry. Ive looked up SC mammals and cant find anything that fits this description, anyone got any ideas or did she have to much Chardonnay?

Cheers

It could have been any of our wild mammals with mange; these small critters look completely different without hair.

is that a pluff mud covered racoon?

How sure of the height is the wife. A 2’ tall muddy raccoon is a HUGE raccoon. But, a muddy raccoon is my bet.

… on second thought. If the coon was threatened and was arched up like they do to make themselves look bigger, a big coon could be close to 2’ tall. 'Still, a big coon.

Well, darkness may have distorted the details a bit. But it could have been a bobcat, young coyote, fox, malnourished dog … or a possum that had previously fallen into a pool of radioactive waste.

If you could have only gotten a picture.

Have you ever seen a hairless bear?

It’s what nightmares are made of.

I am going with the Chupacabra as well. It is a well known and common sighting.

Sounds like a Rambler or Hopper to me.

Not very often you see a baby Yeti like that, careful mamma is probably near by!

I dunno, that mud covered coon looks pretty unhappy to me…

I’ve seen multiple raccoons swimming across flats this year – never really noticed them before this summer for some reason. That’s my guess.

Thanks guys, maybe a mangy racoon or kinda like the idea of a Chupacabra wandering the hood.
