Will an open deck kayak work?

A friend of mine has an open deck boat he will let me borrow. I have often thought about taking it into the creeks for spottails and trout. I can’t cut rod holders in it, and was wondering if you guys might have an idea or two. It sure sounds like a cool way to catch a fish.

Thanks

Loondog,
I am a bit confused…nothing new. What brand and model kayak is it? By open deck, do you mean you sit inside the boat or on top of it?

I do not know the model. It is a sit on top kayak, I think it is 15 or 16 feet. He has a seat that acts a as a back rest. The foot pedals are several indentions on the sides. I looked at it the last time we were out and I could not figure out how to hold the fishing poles. There is an eyelet in the center between your kneees that my buddy says you can use for a paddel tether. It also has bunjee cord cross straps behind the seat for holding down gear, and a rear hatch. I wish I could tell you more about the boat, but I just don’t know.

Loondog,
If it floats, you can fish from it. It sounds like you should strap a milk crate to it with short sections of pvc attached for rodholders. I will try to get the digital camera working and send you a picture. If you have access to a digital camera, send me a shot of the yak.
