I am starting to go a little stir crazy. Beginning to get a twitch. I need to go catch some groupers!
For those guys with more experience than me, any worthwhile trolling in 100-150 waters this time of year? Dolphin? Stray wahoo?Might try to drag baits from one bottom spot to another if the weather cooperates.
Wahoo, dolphin (few), king, and sails on ledge. Heard decent reports at dock last week on the wahoo bite.
quote:That depends on how you define "worthwhile"... Is 1 wahoo worthwhile, 2 wahoos, 10???

I used to do a lot of trolling inside the ledge in 120-150’ in July and August, and it’s usually worthwhile. There are enough kings, wahoo, dolphin, blackfin, and sailfish around through the summer to keep things interesting. Don’t expect to fill the boat, but we’ve had plenty of days in the heat of the summer with 10-12 nice fish in the box while boats further out were slow. Also, if you take live bait out there, you’re almost guaranteed steady action.
Thanks, we picked up a wahoo in September in 120 ft of water. Small one but at least something.
How do you troll live baits or do you pitch them? Menhaden ok or should we sabiki greenies. Very easy to catch menhaden right now where we are but they die so easily.
This wind is getting to me as well. Hauled the boat up to NC last week and had it in the water the whole time. Only got to fish 5 hours in the ocean due to the steady winds. I’m not an inshore fisherman and it showed. Gave it a shot anyway but didn’t catch anything of note.
The intra coastal has been crazy busy with wannabe center console fishing boats joy riding. Happy to say, I was one of them!

I want to go to the 60 on Thursday. It looks like the best day this week. What do you weather gurus say?
If you want the wind to quit blowing for 6 months, buy a sailboat. It’s worked for me a few times

We murdered the Wahoo last August. I have a weird feeling the wind stops blowing, and the temps fall back to the 80’s come August 10th. At least that’s what I’m hoping for.
The hot weather and wind seem to go hand in hand. September and October seem to bring calmer days
