I have been having a problem with my steering cable getting stuck inside the steering tube. I installed a new cable in March and cleaned/lubed the tube then but am still having problems. I have found what I believe is a replacement tube (available in alum or SS) but am not sure it will fit. My motor is a 2003 Yamaha 70 TLRB and the part is a Teleflex Morse Steering Support Tube #SA27274P. Does anyone know if this will fit? Has anyone here done this job and how hard is it?
Trying to get my boat squared away before shrimp season since it stays down there for about 3 months.
Thanks
Not sure about the tube, but are you sure you aren’t having problems with the cable itself? I have had to replace a few. Most were completely stuck though. I’ never had replaced the steering tube itself.

Try takeing a coathanger and bending it in half and putting a green 3m pad in the fold, soak it with wd40 and put in elect drill and insert in tube and run wideopen pusinin and pulling back an forth, I have always been able to clean out the tube this way. Be sure to coat uith greese besore installin ne cable!
“I installed a new cable in March and cleaned/lubed the tube then but am still having problems”. I have run a 12 gauge shotgun brush on a drill through it. It is just really corroded. Since the cable is new, I figured my next fix would be the tube itself.
Spray the tube down with some PB blaster. Go to a parts store and rent one of those honing tools they use on engine cylinders. If it doesn’t clean it then spend the money on a new tube. The parts house will rent you the honer and refund the money upon return.

I’ve cleaned my Yamaha and Mariner with a long wood paddle drill bit - 3/4" I believe. Hard to get to …
