99% of lures are made to catch fishermen. they do work nice on a dredge or spreader bar.

The offshore lure industry is no different than any other industry that has great marketing. Targeted fishing catalogs and high-priced tackle-shops have essentially brain-washed many (I know that some of you get it) offshore fishermen to think that if a lure, jig, rod, reel is not branded with a premium label that it’s a lesser product. If you do your research and ignore the hype and marketing wizardry you will find that nothing is farther from the truth. High-priced offshore lures are designed mostly to catch anglers with too much cash in their pockets than they are to catch fish.
I have seen and used some great looking stuff from Williamson and other lesser known manufacturers with great results. My one piece of advice is not to buy anything “pre-rigged” (you can never trust what you haven’t rigged yourself). Instead, use the cash you saved by using off-brand lures to buy a good book on rigging and the hardware to properly rig and crimp you own. Once you do you can continue to save on overpriced terminal tackle for the rest of your life.
While you are at it, buy some cedar plugs, cheap diamond jigs, drone spoons, and other good looking off-brand trolling lures. Inexpensive lures have served the commercial industry for years so congratulate yourself for not being fooled by high-dollar marketing.
