The recent posts about getting spiders safely outside reminded me of something I heard once about house-spiders being an entirely different species group from the spiders we generally see outdoors and they have evolved overtime for indoor-life only. This means that when we “set a spider free” we are actually killing them.

You need to talk to CapnTang. He is from that area I believe.

I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me!

Nah, I’m from the fairer Southern Carolina.

My mom grew up in Wilmington, though, and we still have a lot of family around there.

I could probably scare up some recommendations. What kinda stuff were you looking for?

good, local seafood…B&Bs near the coast…sights to see…cool bars…

I’m not going to be much help with local seafood and B&Bs - I haven’t found any really good seafood up there (usually end up cooking it myself), and I always stay on Wrightsville with family. I’ll send my brother an email and see what he recommends.

For casual lunches, Two Guys Grille has a pretty good Philly. Not dirt cheap at $8 a sandwich, but they have locations all over Wilmington.

Causeway Cafe is popular little diner next to Redix on Harbor Island right before you get to Wrightsville. It’s always packed for breakfast, and it’s good for a decent and cheap meal.

Sweet and Savory Cafe is pretty good - again, near the beach on Pavilion Place between Wrightsville Avenue and Eastwood, almost where they merge. I usually go for lunch, but they serve breakfast and dinner as well. Get the fresh made potato chips with a side of ranch for dipping.

Indochine is the best restaurant I’ve found in the area. It’s really good Asian food (Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese … they’re all represented), and the atmosphere is great. I’ve never had a bad meal there. It’s on Market at Wayne Drive.

You’ll probably want to head to one of two places for bars - downtown Wilmington along the river or Wrightsville Beach. I only head to the bars up there when my brother’s band is playing one of them, so I don’t have too much experience with them. I’ve been to Water Street Bar & Grill downtown a few times, and I remember them being OK - live music, but they’re a little expensive. Red Dogs and the other bars nearby on Wrightsville will be a little rougher and mostly filled with college kids, but they’re cheaper and near the beach. Again, I’ll have more to offer about the bar scene after my brother gets back to me.

If you’re taking the wife, you might benefit from heading down to Southport for lunch one day - a really quaint, small-town type place about 40 minutes south of Wilmington. I’ve really only been there for the outdoor shooting range, but I seem to recall my aunt speaking fondly of the place. If you avoid

dam, thanks for the 411 capntang!
