Wind and Tide

North and west winds tend to push a tide down whereas east and south winds tend to stack a tide, no?

For example: a 5.0 ft predicted high tide with a easterly wind would actually be higher. Say 6.0 depending on the the wind.

Am I correct on the wind directions and effects on tides?

Your thoughts on wind direction are correct. This is particularly true with the east and west wind and of course the strength of the wind is important too.
