Wind and waves

So I’ve been more than frustrated this year with the wind every weekend as I’m sure most of you guys are. I’m looking at Saturday and it’s saying 4ft every 9 seconds. Is there anything I can look at to see if they are going to be easy rollers and I can run in my boat? Just getting itchy to get out there. Thanks again for everyone’s help so far. And thanks for putting up with me being such an offshore rookie.

With the wind, I don’t believe the 9 seconds is accurate. Nearshore Friday is 15 and 3’ building to 4-6’ Friday night. That’s Charleston National Weather Service out to 20NM. When sailflow says 4’, it is usually 3-6’. But they change the forecast every day so who knows. If the forecast holds, no way I would be out in a 22’ boat.

Thanks Taz. Which forecast do you use?

What forecasts don’t show is surface Chop. 15mph winds will create an easy 2’ surface chop. Add that on top of your swell height and add in 2’x2-3sec waves in between for surface chop and that’ll get you a good idea of what you’re facing. A 10mph wind will give you surface chop but nothing too bad. I will 99% of the time stay home unless the winds are under 10mph. I factor in gusts forecast as well.
