Plans were to hit Folly River to get oysters for dad and friend girl but that tirned into a windy, choppy hell of a morning. First we get there around 10:30am and tide was still high so me and the ole lady decided to park at boat ramp and walk to Folly Beach Pier until the tide went down.Walked the pier and about got blown off the pier by heavy winds. So we headed back to the docking and and backed boat in water and i looked at her and said all this for some d@$n oysters. About time we got close to area she said," F$#k that, its toooo mf cold, I am ready to go, we can get some next trip". So i looked at her and laugh and said welcome to the fishing world. So we turned around and headed back to dock. So by the time we got back to the dock we both wwas frozen. Next time i will check the weather…lol
Back to the upstate we go…
Ha! Thanks for sharing the story.
It’s the disastrous trips that get remembered the longest. And often make us laugh the most through the years.
That Folly River can get pretty nasty when you have a strong northeast and it start bucking that tide. Bounced my way down it many times when I was younger.
Always check the wind on the river and the water temp if possible. Our place is on Folly River and can be “nice” at the house but by the time you get out to the dock the wind is blowing and it’s a colder wind blowing across the cold water. Completely different than 50 yards away where sheltered from the wind. And, as Andy mentioned, if the wind is fighting the tide it can be pretty sloppy as well! I’m going to see you out there around Folly one of these time and will holler!
I use the island and islands to my advantage to hide from wind. I check the wind and if its reel bad I look for one of my spots that will be blocked or have lesser winds.
