Before I get into how good today was, will give a quick recap of Wednesday which was a beautiful day with water temps of 63-64 degrees at a creek at lower end of the lake. Never saw concentrations of fish or bait, but saw fish often enough, but action was pretty slow and they would just slap at the bait (one fish was hooked in the eye). Tally was one 24 incher, two 21’s and a few shorts.
Now today was breezy at 0930 when we got on the water and grew stronger. Water temps at this lower end creek about the same as Wednesday. Ran into fish just off the entrance to a very little pocket and worked water depths from 30 to 5 feet in it. First fish on while setting out the 2nd rod. Didn’t catch any shorts, but lost track of the number between 21 and 23, which were several. Topped things off with four 24 inchers, three 25 inchers, and one 26 incher.
By this time the wind is really whipping things up, and I can see the advantage in having more than a 55 pounds of thrust trolling motor. So we decided to call it a day a little bit before noon. Not bad results by my standards for less than 3 hours on the water.
Caught fish on planer boards, corks, and freelines. All rods caught fish, except my personal favorite rod which has been a notorious non-producer or weak producer over the past months. I finally noticed, or paid attention, that I have clear line on all other rods except this one which has a very dark green color line on it. So I’m replacing the line before I go out again and see what happens.
Finally, pollen is terrible. Looking across the lake, the wind was blowing pollen out of the trees so badly, it looked like a house was on fire over there with great big billowing yellow clouds. For a while I was afraid Spring might never get here.
