windy but successful day on water!

Headed out about 8 am with strong winds in th harbor to a spot off of James Island to escape the wind. Outgoing tide produced a good many menhaden which we castnetted. Picked up a flounder immediately on the bottom with a mudder. Then, nice speck trout (16 inch) in the same location. Bite was shut off after that.

Moved, slowly across the harbor to an area off of the wando, at dead low. Little tricky with anchoring due to the 15kt winds, but finally were able to position ourselves! Within an hour and a half, we had boated 7 slot reds - most of which were 17-19 inch range. They were hungry today for menhaden and mudders…probably shrimp too but Haddrells was out of them.

All in all, an excellent day on the water and were done fishing by 1pm. And, it aint that hot yet!

good day for you!! I don’t like it when the wind is strong enough to cause the anchor to break. Too many times I find myself getting blown into something bad…shell bank or mud flat. Part of the challenge I suppose!

Glad to see you had a good day. Going tomorrow to target Flounder up the Wando. Haven’t ventured up that way this year yet. Hope the wind dies down.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

Oh, I meant to add-- all reds were released except one. It was a blast getting those guys on 6 lb test setups. Several of the reds had a beautiful blue tint to the tip of the tail.

Nice work out there, especially on the light tackle.
