Got out some Saturday afternoon and hit the river about 3-ish. Went to one of my favorite banks at about 2 hr before low tide with a nice mess of fresh caught live shrimp in hopes of some spot-tail or trout. I struck out for a solid hour at each of my two go-to spots on that bank? not even a bait stealer? didn?t even see a fish. I did see some shrimp kicking around in the mud however.
SouthWest was howling across the river and against the tide coupled with boat traffic made for a pretty sloppy mess close to the bank where I was fishing. Once I finally had enough bobbing around I searched my GPS for something I may have seen and marked while riding down the river to try a new spot. Found a place marked on the GPS I have never tried across the river -out of the wind.
Very similar structure conditions ? live oysters exposed at dead low tide et cetera adjacent to a dry-ish muddy flat area ? sparse grass on the flat leading up to the marsh- just perfect. The only different at new spot was that it was out of the wind and the tide had JUST started to come in.
Night and day difference- fish were crushing bait on the bank, bait everywhere, perfect spot to perk up my hopes. I even saw some tailer action! but, couldn?t buy a bite. That part I understand? I wasn?t holding my mouth right.
My question: What is your experience fishing in the wind regarding windward vs. leeward banks? In fresh water ponds/lakes sometimes the wind pushes the ?food chain? to the windward bank; had very good experiences in these situations but not Saturday.
