Windy Wednesday Fishing

Taking advantage of this warm january weather…and fighting the wind a little bit too. Today was a little tougher as most creeks we usually fish had the wind howling down its throat…so we did a little exploring and found a few “drains” that were holding a few fish around the oyster beds in them. Fish seemed to be a little tight lipped early morning…and didnt catch much until after lunch last two days. Donnie commented he could have slept in a little later…I told him it was good exercise for when summer rolls around:smiley:. 'Coons munched up my store bought fiddlers last night…but they were plentiful on the banks today…even waving their claws at me as if to say “here I am…here I am” One drain we ventured up into had a makeshift party site on a little bend…and i swear the hair stood up on my neck and I could hear that song from “Deliverence” playing in my head:flushed:…had a eerie feeling that we were being watched…Sasquatch maybe? haaha…but seriously…it was strange.
Have been feeding the redfish a “shrimp cocktail” of sorts…frozen shrimp with a fiddler cap…and they yumm them up. donnie laughed at me with my bait buffet…but I noticed he quickly switched over too:wink: sheeps were hiding…but caught some trout, redfish and drum. Got a couple new hats for Christmas…this one from my sister…

and this one from my daddy…hopefully will get cold enough to wear it:smiley:…he said he never knew a "Mudd " hat could cost so much!…and next time he’ll just give me one of his . haha:smiley:…but guess it was the “fox” (faux) fur…that bumped the price up

heres a few pics from today//

one fish two fish…Red fish for dinner( only kept one of the 25+ we caught.)

over 25 fish in a day definately sounds good and i would say paddle faster…but i guess a boat motor would work slightly better instead lol.

…sigh…while sitting in the middle of the Midwest. Can’t even go out on the back deck right now without slipping on the ice and almost falling-ought to see our new pup heading out the door and not being able to stop

Thanks again Penny! You certainly know how to keep our spirits up with your pics and stories…now can somebody slip by her place and move the tape just a little bit

Actually…that’s a blonde joke…and I was supposed to say I used lipstick to mark the spot on the boat
Heading out the door to catch a few more hopefully…today is a “not going to be in a rush at all day”…translated means…Donnie and Roo are still crashed out :). So won’t rush them. . Been a nice week off of doing nothing…

forgive my ignorance. what’s the purpose of the oyster crib?

it’s a place to raise little baby oysters without them running away!

The Morris Island Lighthouse www.savethelight.org

The little oysters attach to the oyster stakes and grow…part of the replenishing way of oyster men . Daddy has to put a couple thousand out every year on his lease. Old times they used wire laid n the mudd…now most use bamboo or wood stakes like you attach bean plants too.daddy gets his from a farmer after season…grow veggies…grow oysters…land and sea stakes ;). I laughingly referred to them as a crib because that’s what I call them…but bonzo is right too :). Sorry…sometimes oly I understand my crazy humor…like seeing pics on pilings and faces on stumps . lol

Looks like you had a great day on the water. Always enjoy the stories and pictures. The helicopter is used by power companys to do line inspections so they can cover more ares quicker.
