Winter Bass

Ok here it goes, Never really fished untill I moved down here and started going with a guy I work with. Now I’m hooked, no pun intended. I know that there are a TON of varibles when it comes to bass fishing and I’m sure that applys to any fishing for that matter but I’m learning. Question is how do you catch bass in the winter???
also, are the Bass in the rivers any different than the bass on the lakes?? Out of the ones I have caught the bass in the river seem to fight allot harder.

The key to bass in the winter time is super slow or super fast. You can drag a worm or jig on the bottom or you can burn a bait like a rattle trap or crankbait. By burning the bait, you are looking for a reaction bite. I think the river bass are stronger than the lake bass also. If you are fishing the river in the winter, a crankbait is hard to beat. Alot of people have a favorite bait but black and silver will catch fish most of the time. Also, a crawfish color can sometimes be productive. Hope this helps you some.

Excuses? I’ve heard them all!

best thing to do is stay home where its warm. hard to catch bass in the winter. but…if you go just throw jigs and workum slow:wink:

it is not hard to catch bass in the winter.#7 shad rap.black and silver or natural. try both until bass show preference. hopkins spoon around vertical cover and drop-offs. white bucktail fished with a lift and drop retrieve.
these 3 tactics will always work in the cold water if fished in the right spots with confidence.
i have won many winter tourneys with these 3.
it took many cold ass days to learn this in the days before the WWW.

The river bass i have had experience with, were always tucked up tight in log-jams in the winter. We always fish worms and jigs right in the middle of cover. We would drop the worm in a hole in the log jam about the size of a softball. Lots of fish that way, but lots of snags too.

#5 or #7 shad rap, rattle trap, slow rolled spinnerbait, or worms. shad raps are my favorite for winter time bass but any of these options will catch em’. good luck
